Solar Installers' Roof Solution

The SolaDeck enclosure is a UL listed product that simplifies roof penetrations for solar array wiring. It has a wide integral flashing base that integrates easily into shingle roofs. Installers can punch holes in the sides for flexible wiring layouts and exit through the side or bottom. The low profile allows installation under the array rails for an aesthetically pleasing look. Installers can use it to transition wiring from the array to conduit or combine multiple high voltage strings before connecting to an inverter.

Bonus Information

SolaDeck Roof Penetration Enclosure

The SolaDeck enclosure (notice there is no ‘r’) is a wonderful UL listed product that simplifies
and professionalizes the way you can (1) transition from array wiring to conduit and (2) make
roof very low profile roof penetrations. It is not exclusive to the solar industry (it is for example
often used for satellite dish installs) but it is quite popular with high quality solar installers.

The enclosure has a wide integral flashing base, so it

easily and properly integrated into composite shingle
roofing. You punch your own holes in the sides so it is
quite flexible in the ways you can use it for your
particular array layout. And you can exit the unit on
the side if you want to do a rooftop conduit run, or you
can knockout a hole in the bottom and penetrate
directly into an attic space or through an eave.

The enclosure is so low that you can install the unit

under the array rail system (if allowed by your local
jurisdiction), which results in a very aesthetically
pleasing array.

You can use a simple UL 50 Type 3R enclosure to

simply transition your wiring from USE-3 or Solar
Wire to standard conductors in conduit.

Or you can use their UL 1741 Combiner enclosure if

you have multiple high voltage series strings that you
want to first connect to touch-safe fuse holders and
then combine into a single circuit to go down to your
inverter.
