Is everyone here today? She is sick ma’am.
Ariane, Where is Jen? Aren’t you together in the
same boarding house? Why didn’t you go to school
with her today?
Thank you for informing me, Ariane, later, after class
I will give you her module to study when she feels Yes, ma’am
better and I will also send paracetamol from the
clinic for her to drink. Please don’t forget to bring it
to your boarding house. Thank you
Hello! Good Morning Class Good Morning Ma’am!
Are you ready to learn? Yes, ma’am
But before we begin we must first think about our
Classroom Rules
Shella , kindly read.
(Shella read the classroom rules)
1. Listen and Follow Instructions (safety
protocols and classwork)
2. Raised hand to speak (Shella read the classroom rules)
3. Be quiet when the teacher/classmates are
talking.
4. Respect the Teacher and your classmates
always.
Yes, ma’am
Is that clear class?
Another reminder class, is that whenever I say “1”
Yes, ma’am
you will say “HEY” when I say “2” say
“sssshhhh!!!”
MOTIVATION:
Alright! Now do you want to have a game?
Okay, We will have a game and the winner will
receive a reward.
The 4-PICS ONE WORD GAME:
You will guess the missing WORD using the
pictures.
The first picture is…
Maam, the missing word is endangered
Verygood! How about the second picture?
EXTINCTION
Very good! The missing word is Extinction and here
are your rewards.
B. Now, Take a look at the pictures, Ma’am Endagered- you can see the species
What do you observe? of animals that are very few in number and
are in danger of extinction, while on the
second picture of EXTINCTION you can see
the death of a certain species.
Very Good! Now, can you give examples of
animals that can be considered endangered Tamaraw, Philippine Eagle
species here in our country?
Very good! Those are examples of endangered
species because the number of these species
is very small and it continuously decreases.
How about EXTINCTION?
When an entire species of all animals die out that
the species is extinct.
Do you know of any species that used to be Mam Dinosaur
extinct?
Do you that in the Philippines, there are animals
existed long before we lived?Yes! but
unfortunately we can no longer see them
anymore because they are already extinct like
the
Maybe because of the destruction of their
habitat Ma’am.
What do you think the reason of their extinction?
Engage Now, I will group you into 3 groups to do the Photo
C. Establishing a Quiz.
purpose for (Students will be grouped based on their abilities for
the lesson them to cope with the questions or activity that will
be given to them based on their level of knowledge,
They will be grouped using different colors that
represent different characteristics so that they will not
feel any discrimination
Red Group – Fast Learner
Blue – Slow Learner
Green – IP students)
PHOTO QUIZ: I will be posting some pictures, Try
to analyze them carefully and, will give you a card
with the words written on it and all you have to do is
to match those words to each picture.
Okay, let’s do it
The first group is the blue group
Which among the picture shows, hunting and
trapping? Picture no.1: Hunting and Trapping
(Blue group is the group of slow learner so it is
necessary to explain thoroughly and choose the easy
task for them to answer so that they can feel that they
are in sync with the class
Okay, Very good blue group
Next Green Group, Will you please answer the
second and third pictures.
(The Green Group is the IP students and the activity
given to them will be very for them to answer also
because the pictures are familiar to them most
C. Presenting specially the picture in no.3 so they can easily give Picture no. 2 is Taking animals for profit

the new lesson Very good
So, the last two pictures will identify with the Red
Group (who are the fast learner)
Picture no. 4 =Pollution
Very good!
Picture no. 5 = Overharvesting
So, based on your observation in the pictures posted
on the board or from the activity that you did,
What do you think is our topic for today Red Group?
Human Actions that cause extinction Ma’am.
Exactly! Very good
Today We will Find out how changes in the
environment can affect species extinction.
Distinguish environmental changes that may result in
the loss of the species.
Do you think these human actions will result abrupt
changes in the environment?
Yes, ma’am
Do you think those abrupt changes will accelerate the
rate of extinction?
Yes, ma’am
Explore Over the past years, our environment keeps on
D. Discussing changing. Many landscapes were converted into
new concepts buildings, parks or subdivision. Along the beaches,
and practicing you can see lots of resorts, resto and other
new skill #1 commercial establishments..
Every day our natural resources are intensely utilized
for food, shelter, clothing, electricity and fuel to
support our needs. We keep on searching for our
comfortable living without thinking we are already
destroying the environment. Yes, Ma’am.
How about in your community? Have you observed
any changes? Do these changes affect your
community? Work on this Activity to answer my
questions.
Kindly evaluate the community where you live. On
the response column, mark the check (⁄) under YES
if the statement is TRUE to your community and NO
if it is NOT.
Okay, let’s do this activity, Let the Red Group
(group students who live in town) do first the
activity.
Next is the green group ( From Naibuan Hanunuo
Village) (Students perform the activity.)
Last is the group of students who lives in BAtasan
and Tugtugin the Blue Group.
Based on your evaluation of the community where Ma’am Air Pollution
you live, what are the environmental problems
present in your community? Deforestation
Very good!
Now, what do you think is the major causes of Ma’am environmental problems
species extinction?
Environmental problems cause species extinction, so
let's talk about the local and environmental problems
and find out how changes in the environment can
affect species extinction?
What can you say about the picture?
The picture shows water and air pollution.
Ma’am,
Very good! That is POLLUTION and the major
types of it is the water pollution and air pollution?
But how does air pollution happen and how does it
change our environment? Ma’am this happens when the air in our
environment becomes dirty due to the smoke
Very good! that gets in the car and it brings bad condition
to our environment and even to people.
Do you know that some AIR POLLUTION comes
from natural resources like volcanic eruptions, wild
fires or allergens, but most AIR POLLUTION results
from human activities like when we burn fossils fuels
to produce energy they release carbon dioxide and
greenhouse gasses into the air, these gases in turn
trap heat coming from the sun in the earth’s
atmosphere resulting in a rise in global temperature
and is a major factor behind the GLOBAL
WARMING.
Another pollution is WATER POLLUTION.
What do you think is the effect of WATER The effect of water pollution is the mass death
POLLUTION? of fish or Fish Kill.
Very good!
(Next: The teacher will post pictures showing
deforestation and will ask the group of IP students)
What can you say about the pictures?
Green Group: The pictures show kaingin
Very good! Farming, Forest hit Typhoon, illegal logging
d rest fires
So, What do you think are the consequences of
cutting down trees?
Soil erosion, floods, decreases in wildlife
Those pictures show another environmental problem
resources that will eventually lead to
which is the DEFORESTATION and one of the
extinction.
major causes of WILDLIFE DEPLETION.
What happens to animal populations that are driven
away from their natural habitat?
Very good! They can get sick because they are not in the
place where are used to live and they can die
How about this picture? What do you see in the because of it.
pictures? Do you think this will be a problem too?
Yes ma’am, the photos show the destructions
Of coral reefs and dynamite fishing
Very good! And those are the reasons of the
DESTRUCTION OF COASTAL RESOURCES.
When the habitat of the fish is destroyed what
happens?
When the habitat of fish is destroyed, they
cannot reproduce and they eventually die.
And the last picture is this
What can you say about the picture?
How does ACID RAIN affect the environment?
ACID RAIN cannot harm humans directly, but it is
more harmful to plants and other animals. Nutrients Acid Rain is harmful to Plants and Animals
and minerals that are needed by the plants to grow
are removed through the acid rain. It can cause the
weakening or death of trees.
That is why sometimes after a heavy rain what do
you notice about the plan? Specially on the leaves?
Very good! It causes yellowing of leaves of trees and
causes leaves to fall. Ma’am the leaves are yellowing.
Aluminum is released from the soil because of acid
rain. When raining, this aluminum will soon reach
rivers, streams, lakes, and oceans which are harmful
to aquatic plants and animals.
E. Discussing
new concepts
and practicing
new skill #2
Now that you have understood the causes of species
extinction .
Is it important for us to know what we can do to
prevent these problems?
So how are you going to take part in solving this
problem?
Provide at least one (1) solution for each of the
following environmental problems. By GRoup
(Students will answer this by group)
Let the students discuss their work

What are those environmental problems that causes
environmental changes that contributes to the
extinction of species.
Evaluate (Paper and Pen Test)
I. Evaluate A. Select the letter of the best answer from
Learning among the given choices.
1. How does the destruction of coral reefs and
mangrove forests contribute to
species extinction?
A. Amount of dissolved oxygen decreases.
B. Fish predators become massive in number.
C. Breeding grounds and nurseries of marine species
are destroyed.
D. The oceans and seas become contaminated with
heavy metals and other
pollutants.
2. The following are consequences of water
pollution EXCEPT
a. infectious diseases
b. oversupply of plant nutrients
c. accumulation of toxic chemicals
d. increased dissolved oxygen for marine life
3. How does habitat degradation cause extinction
of species?
A. It kills acid intolerant species.
B. It leads to spread of diseases that exterminate
species.
C. It leads to diminishing resources which increases
competition among
species.
D. It leads to existence of shallow gene pools that
promote massive inbreeding.
4. Which illustrates how the introduction of new
species may lead to extinction?
A. When a prey species becomes extinct, its predator
loses its food source and
consequently becomes extinct.
B. Amphibian populations have been on the decline
worldwide caused by
fungal infection of their skin which interferes with
osmoregulation
C. When a large predator, the Nile perch, was
introduced into Lake Victoria,
it caused the extinction of half of the species of fish
endemic in it.
D. When bacteria in a lake increase in number due to
continuous
decomposition of dead organisms, dissolved oxygen
declines, killing all the
fishes in it.
5. Deforestation, building of dams, conversion
of forest to agricultural lands and
urban development could cause species to decrease in
number which,
eventually, could lead to extinction. How?
A. They pollute the environment causing species to
die.
B. They cause widespread of diseases which may
lead to mass extinction.
C. They trigger calamities to occur which may cause
mass extinction of
species.
D. They destroy the habitat where species live,
depriving them the chance to
thrive and survive.
B. Read and analyze the given statements carefully.
Choose from the box the cause
of extinction being described in each statement.
_______________1. As a consequence of cutting
down trees, we experience soil erosion, floods, and a
decrease in wildlife resources.
_______________2. Fishkill usually happens when
there is an increase in the concentration of organic
nutrients that comes from garbage and factories.
_______________3. The numbers of species
decrease because of habitat loss caused by invasion
of human to its natural habitat.
_______________4. Cars burn fuel and factories
emit harmful gases like carbon dioxide, nitrogen
oxides, and hydrocarbons that contribute to the
increasing temperature within the earth’s surface.
_______________5. Overharvesting, damaged
mangrove areas, dynamite fishing, and muro-ami are
the causes of marine life destruction.
Let us now check your papers.
May I see the hands of those who got 8 and
above?
Very Good!
