ADMINISTRATION GUIDE FOR TEACHERS
Earth Science
I. Content Standard
The learners demonstrate an understanding of…
1. the formation of the universe and the solar system
2. the subsystems (geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere) that make up
the Earth
II. Performance Standard
The learners shall be able to make a concept map and use it to explain how the
geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere are interconnected
III. Learning Competencies
The learners describe the historical development of theories that explain the origin of
the Universe S11/12ES-Ia-1
IV. Performance Task
Materials: Manila paper, cartolina, colored pens, pentel pen, scotch tape, scissors
Procedure:
1. Group the learners into four (4).
2. Explain how a concept map is made.
3. Ask each group to develop a concept map.
4. Inform the learners that they will use the concept map to explain how the
geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere are interconnected.
5. Give the learners 30 minutes to prepare their concept map.
*The teacher will serve as facilitator and evaluator
V. Evaluation Criteria

Check if each group member is actively participating in the activity using the
checklist below.
Possible Score Self Teacher

PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT
Earth Science
I. Performance Standard
The learners shall be able to make a concept map and use it to explain how the
geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere are interconnected
II. Performance Task
To develop a concept map and use it to explain how the geosphere, hydrosphere,
atmosphere, and biosphere are interconnected
Materials: Manila paper, cartolina, colored pens, pentel pen, scotch tape, scissors
Procedure:
1. Form four (4) groups
2. Develop a concept map
3. Use the concept map to explain the interconnectedness of the geosphere,
hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere
Procedure in making a concept map:
1. Brainstorm on a list of important words related to the subsystems (geosphere,
hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere)
2. Choose the most important word. This word will appear in a box or oval at the top
of your map
3. Link the key word to the second most important words from your list. Once you've
found your keys word, draw arrows extending downward to the left and right that
connect the word to the next two or three most important words. These next words
should be able to connect to the other words you've brainstormed, which will appear
below them.
4. Link the second key words to less important words. Now that you've found your
key word and the next most important words, you can write the words that relate to
the second key words below these. These terms will become more specific, and
should relate back to the words above them
5. Explain the relationship between the terms. Add lines to connect the terms, and
explain the relationship between the terms in a word or two.
The learners will be given time to plan their concept map
*The teacher will serve as facilitator and evaluator
