“Since the beginning of time people have needed to find a way of disposing oftheir trash”

Proper garbage disposal is important to ensure everyone’s safety frompossible health hazards.
The Improper waste disposal of garbage is a majorproblem today due to its capability of
contaminating the area in which we live andit’s potential to be lethal to all living things. The more
waste we generate, themore we have to dispose of. In condition ofbarangay San Vicente in City
of BinanLaguna, the place is located near Save More, many establishments and houses.Hence,
many people are coming and leaving lots of litter. So to say, the residentsare the ones that are
responsible for cleaning the area. It is true that they do cleanthe streets but the litters/garbage
that is collected are not thrown properly becuase they do not have enough fund to hire a private
garbage collectorsthat will roam around the barangay daily. So, the residents and households
only rely ongarbage collection provided by the government. The collection is done once or twice
a week only. Since the garbage collection system is not well managed and are lack of garbage
bins, people dispose the garbage wherever possible. This has led to huge environmental
pollution deteriorating the health of mankind and the other living beings. Due to the lack of
knowledge of disposing the wastages, people throw their garbage in a way they want. We can
see garbage all around thebarangay including in the roads. People throw the garbage without
realizing that itis affecting their own health and will deteriorate the future generation's living
standard. The people are lack of discipline knowing that there would be no consequence for
their action when they throw items anyhow and anywhere, that it has created the "I don't care
attitude" of people. Another thing is, they do not know how to segregate their waste. They mixed
the trashes all together with biodegradable and non-biodegradable. We can see that people are
lack of knowledge and as well as discipline too.
These are the questions that helped us to figure out what barangay San Vincente is facing when
it comes to waste management disposal. The questions are as follows
: 1.What is the problem/s with your barangay when it comes to waste disposal
management?"We are lack of garbage collectors"
2. How many days in a week do the garbage truck collector passes by your area?
"Once or twice a week only."
3.how are they storing their garbage? Do they know how to segregate?
"No. They mixed everything, no segregation happening. They mixed biodegradable to non-
biodegradable, recyclable and non-recyclable."
4. Is there any rules and regulations regarding this matter?"None."We recommend to the
Barangay of San Vicente in Binan Laguna to implement a litter lawsthat will ensure that no litter
will be discarded, thrown or dropped onto public and private places. Such laws work towards
prohibiting illegallittering. The law must also clearly stipulate that dumping is a serious offense,
punishable by serving a jail term and fines. They can also have community programsand groups
should be created with the sole aim of running anti-litter campaigns to raise awareness. "Keep
the environment tidy" programs and community clean up events can be a lot of fun and are
sufficiently valuable in spreading the message. The campaigns can also be incorporated in
bulletin boards, social media platforms to spread the message widely. A project or campaigns
like this can speak a lot and provide relevant knowledge about the environmental costs of
littering, eventually addressing some of the problems. They can also display 'stop littering signs'.
Putting up signs is a very creative way ofputting a stop to littering. The signs should be placed in
high littered areas (malls, hallways, and in all public places) and those that are prone to littering
such as the streets near public transports. And lastly, we can control the said problem by up
garbage binsin various areasfor effective garbage disposal. Having enough garbage bins in
walking routes and public areas offers convenience in the disposal and collection of litter. With
all these recommendations, we all hope for abetter and well-disciplined barangay San Vicent
