Technology has been a part of people's lives since the dawn of homo sapiens. Technological
advancements in the twenty-first century are vital for society to prosper and change, not only power
the lights and computers we use every day, but also physically change our bodies as a function of
vaccinations and the medications we use on a regular basis. Accordingly, technology has an influence
on all spheres of life, including culture, tradition, and social values.
The considerable impact of digital on traditional civilizations around the world is presented in two
articles. İbrahim Kurt, professor of education and culture, and Hakan Gök, in their article, ‘Impact of
Technology on the Perceptions of Culture Shock’, demonstrate that although technology makes
individuals more prone to undergo culture shock, it also lessens the harshness of the shock. Besides
that, another article by Edeh Samuel Chukwuemeka, entitled ‘Impact of Technology on Culture,
Tradition and Social Values’, published in the journal BScholarly, depicts information regarding
technology's benefits and drawbacks, for culture, tradition, and societal values, has made a

tremendous contribution in enhancing our lives. Both papers make a major contribution to our
comprehension of the cultural effects of technology.
The main points of the article written by Kurt and Gök are the progression of culture shock from
initial physical journeys to first-generation internet travel and the influence of technology on how
individuals view different civilizations. They examine that people from one culture who relocate to
another may encounter some culture shock due to their lack of familiarity with the new society. Due
to various television and the internet, people are regularly exposed to diverse cultures. To be more
precise, they accentuate the multicultural traits of distinct nations and communities, including clothes,
religion, festivals and ceremonies, and cuisine. Eventually, they conclude that people are more
conscious of other cultures and lifestyles thanks to technology. By acquiring knowledge about various
cultures and sharing some of their experiences with others, people can overcome physical and
psychological obstacles.
While Kurt and Gök specifically emphasize how technology might alleviate the magnitude of culture
shock, Chukwuemeka’s article has 5 main parts that explore the positive and negative effects of
technology, namely ‘Technological Impact on Culture’, ‘The Human Touch’, ‘Cultural divide’,
‘Technological Impact on Tradition’, and ‘Technological Impact on Social Values’. Firstly, he reveals
that technology ‘must be in harmony’ with the community's social and cultural norms, he also
discovered that acknowledging and accepting all uniqueness in order to make a positive impact is the
key to effective communication. Next, he asserts technology cannot take the place of interpersonal
interactions. Thirdly, he declares the wide range of technical resources available and what users have
the right to use also lead to the culture clash. The fourth main idea is many sectors have advanced
with the help of technology, but traditional coherence has been lost, and unemployment has
skyrocketed. He furthermore believes that humans should be cautious about overusing technology.

Finally, Chukwuemeka also claims that although the advancement of technology has greatly
improved social bonds, it has also caused people more lethargic and completely reliant on it.
Both articles provide insightful information that helps readers better comprehend how technology
affects culture. ‘Impact of Technology on the Perceptions of Culture Shock’ is an extremely beneficial
paper for those looking for a general overview of the various cultures and the ways in which
technology might assist people to cope with cultural shock. The article's layout and structure are both
remarkably straightforward, making it simple for readers to follow the topic. Perhaps it would have
been better for the authors to present the key ideas in the introduction and clearly express their
opinions in each section. Another flaw, at least in my perspective, is the lack of illustrations for the
examples that are mentioned, making it sometimes difficult to visualize what is being presented when
the paper attempts to describe cultural examples. It would have been much easier to grasp if the
photographs had been in colour. Notwithstanding, the article does provide plenty of succinct theories
regarding the advantages of technology in lessening culture shock from trustworthy and pertinent
sources to strengthen readers' trust.
Regarding ‘Impact of Technology on Culture, Tradition and Social Values’ of Chukwuemeka, the
author offers an interesting argument about the disadvantages and advantages of how technology
affects culture and interpersonal relationships in contemporary life. The paper, however, contains a
plethora of writer's thoughts in lieu of providing more evidence and graphs to support some arguments
put forward. In addition, if the piece had been written in a formal style and avoided addressing the
reader as ‘you’, it would have been more professional and academic. Another blatant shortcoming is
that the assertions are not entirely clear, which causes readers to become easily confused and unable
to understand the ideas. Therefore, it would have been better if Chukwuemeka probably devise a more
logical and detailed process. On the other hand, he is successful in highlighting both sides of the

impact of technology on three distinct aspects (culture, tradition, and social values). Moreover, the
paper includes a table of contents so that people may simply follow and identify the primary idea of
each section.
Despite these inadequacies, both articles are successful in accomplishing their purpose of seeking
essential aspects for deepening our understanding of the considerable technology's impact on culture
and society. The article written by Kurt and Gök is readable and extremely extensive, so readers who
are looking to learn about culture shock, in general, would be wise to read it. Even though
Chukwuemeka's essay has the necessary information, readers may want to consider reading the other
essay more, because the paper is a little challenging to grasp clearly.
