Finding Meaning in Visual Media

Visual - something you look at, such as a picture, chart, or piece of film that is used to illustrate
something more appealing or easier to understand

Visual Media - are sources of information in the form of visual representations

- can be abstractions, analogues, rough illustrations or digital reproductions of the objects

- should be an interpretation of data, and sources may be hosted on the internet, printed in
publications, displayed through broadcast media, or otherwise disseminated

Purpose of Visual Media

Visual aids are used by people to express their thoughts and desires. Humans are wired
to pay attention to visuals such as graphics and illustration. However, the technological
revolution did not reshape the visual media landscape until the last few decades.

Visual media aids students in remembering concepts and ideas. They make concepts
more accessible than text media and aid in later recall. Pupils can enter worlds beyond their
own, especially if the media is vastly different from their immediate surroundings.
