III. Procedure
STEPS Teacher Activity Pupil Activity

A. PREPARATORY
ACTIVITIES
1. Daily Routines Before we start our discussion, kindly lead a (Learners will recite the
prayer Ellen. Amen prayer. Amen)

Thank you, Ellen.

Good afternoon class Good afternoon, sir!

Before you sit, pick up the pieces of paper on (Learners will pick up the
the floor and arrange your chairs pieces of paper)

Okay, you may now take your seats (Learners will take their
seats)

Attendance officer, who is absent today? There is no absence for

2. Review today, sir.
Before we proceed to the next topic, who
among you can recall the last topic? (Learners will raise their
hands.)

Yes, Mica. Our topic last time is all

about the outer planets.

Hmm, outer planets? Let’s see.

(The teacher will show a material)

Very Good, our topic last time is all about the
outer planets.

Do you still remember what are the outer

planets? Yes,sir.

So I have prepared here an activity and we

will call it “Guest Me Little Astronauts”. I
have prepared here a pictures of a planets and
you are going to identify what planet it is. Did
you understand class?

Let’s start!
(The teacher will use a material to show the Jupiter
pictures of the planets by flipping it.) Saturn
Uranus
Neptune

Very Good class! Let’s do the planet clap!

(The teacher will demonstrate it first)

3. Motivation Okay, we are already done with the outer

planets, so now we will discuss the inner
planets. But before we start the discussion we
will have another activity that helps test your
prior knowledge about our next topic.

Our activity is called Astro-rangers! Now,

Are you ready astronaut the arrangers? Yes, sir.

Direction: Arrange the jumbled letters to

form the correct names of the given
pictures of a planet.

I will group you into two, the first group will

call as Amazing Meteors and the second
group will be called as Angel Stars: Every
member must have their own role.

(The teacher will give the letters and let the

students distribute it to their groupmates.)

Now the group of amazing meteor will be on

this area and the group of angel stars will be
on this area. So here are the mechanics Once

I show the jumbled letters you are going to
arrange those letters by arranging yourselves
and going in front. Once you arrange
yourselves do the planet clap! And if whom
did the planet clap first they will get a star,
This starboard will serve as your scoreboard
if who among the group has the most stars by
participating in any activities including
recitations will get a reward at last, Did you
get it, class?
Yes, sir.
Let’s Start!

What have you formed? (Mercury, Earth,Venus and

Mars)
Yes, and these are the inner planets.

All right, I think you’re excited and ready to

learn now fasten your seatbelts because we
are going to launch to the inner planets.

B. Developmental Activities

1. Statement of Today, we will tackle the inner planets but What are the inner planets?
Problem before that what questions can you formulate
about the inner planets? How many planets are there
in the inner planets?

How are inner planets

different and similar to the
outer planets?

(Other questions can be

asked.)

2. Hypothesis What are the inner planets? (Mercury, Venus, Earth

and Mars.)

Alicia, Isabela
What do you think are the differences and (Pupils give as many as
similarities between outer and inner planets? they guesses)
Any guess?

3. Data gathering
Okay, In order for you to understand the topic
very well we will use the same group, this
group will be called as? Amazing meteors
while this group is called? Angel Stars. I will
provide a Venn diagram for each group. I will
present video of each planets and you are
going to observe each planet. Identify the Yes sir.
differences and similarities between the outer
and inner planets. Is that clear? Cooperate with groupmate.
Listen to the leader.
But before that, what are things that you must Make it without noise.
consider when you are having your group
activity?

Very good! I will give you 10 minutes to

finish your work.
(Learners observe and note
(During the activity, the down)
teacher will go around and monitor the
learners.) Yes sir.

Are you done one with your work? (Learners post their work.)

Post your Venn diagrams in front and one

representative will present it in class.

4. Discussion and Okay, we will now proceed to the discussion.

Analysis (The teacher use a balloon with question
inside and let students pop it)
(The teacher choose a student randomly to
pop the first balloon)

Who wants to receive a planet badge? Sir. (The students will raise
their hands.)

Okay, it seems like all of you want to receive

a badge. Just answer the questions, and you
will be given a badge. Did you get it class? Yes, sir.

1. What is inner planet? Any planet of the solar

system that orbits the sun

The Indigenous Peoples Education Hub
Alicia, Isabela
and these are the planets
that are closest to the sun.

2. What are the inner planets? Mercury, Venus, Earth, and

Mars.

3. What are the characteristics of each planet? Mercury, The smallest

planet in our solar system
and nearest to the Sun,
Mercury is only slightly
larger than Earth's Moon.

Venus is the second planet

from the Sun and is Earth’s
closest planetary neighbor.
It’s one of the four inner,
terrestrial (or rocky)
planets, and it’s often
called Earth’s twin because
it’s similar in size and
density.

Earth, Our home planet is

the third planet from the
Sun, and the only place we
know of so far that’s
inhabited by living things.
It is the biggest of the four
planets closest to the Sun

Mars is the fourth planet

from the Sun – a dusty,
cold, desert world with a
very thin atmosphere. Mars
is also a dynamic planet
with seasons, polar ice
caps, canyons, extinct
volcanoes, and evidence
that it was even more active
in the past.

4. What are the characteristics of the inner

planet as compared to other planets? The four inner planets have
shorter orbits, slower spin,
no rings, and they are made
of rock and metal. The four
PHILIPPINE NORMAL UNIVERSITY NORTH LUZON

outer planets have longer
orbits and spins, a
composition of gases and
liquids, numerous moons,
and rings.

5. How are inner planets similar to outer

planets? They are all planets that
orbit the sun and they are
all part of our solar system.

Do you have another question class? None, sir.

5. Verifying Which of the information that you provided All the information is correct
Hypothesis was correct or incorrect? teacher.

We thought that outer planets

are just the same as outer
planets.

We thought that all planets

only have one moon.
(Other answers will be given)

Great job!

6. Generalizing/ What are the inner and outer planets? Mercury,Venus,Earth and
Concluding Mars
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and
Neptune
How are inner planets different and similar to
outer planets? The inner planets are the
planets who are closest to the
sun while the outer planets are
planets that are farthest to the
sun. These planets differ in
size, orbits, speed of the spin,
appearance and materials they
are made of. They are all
planets and they orbit around
the sun and they are all parts of
the solar system.

C. Concluding
Activity
1. Application Now that we are already done discussing the
inner and outer planets, if you really
understand our topic, let’s play Planets
Wheel. In this activity we will use again the
same group.

(The teacher will present the material in

front)

Directions: Spin the wheel and afterward

identify the picture shown in the wheel that
is pointed by the arrow if it is a inner Yes sir.
planet or outer planet by doing singing and
dancing. Do you understand class?

Okay, now I will present a video and you are

going to familiarize the song and the dance
step.
(The teacher will present the inner and
outer planet song and step)

(The teacher will call student from group 1 (The students will do the
randomly. Let them spin the wheel.) inner/outer planet dance step)

Very good! Venus is from inner planet.

Because of that, group 1 got a star.

(The teacher will call student from group 2 (The students will do the
randomly. Let them spin the wheel.) inner/outer planet dance step)

That’s right! Jupiter is from outer planet.

Because of that, group 2 got a star.

(The teacher will call student from group 1 (The students will do the
randomly. Let them spin the wheel.) inner/outer planet dance step)

Good! Earth is from inner planets.

Because of that, group 1 got a star.

(The teacher will call student from group 2 (The students will do the
randomly. Let them spin the wheel.) inner/outer planet dance step)

Nice! It is from outer planet.

Because of that, group 2 got a star.

The teacher will call student from group 1 (The students will do the
randomly. Let them spin the wheel.) inner/outer planet dance step)

Certainly! Mars is from inner planet.

Because of that, group 1 got a star.

The teacher will call student from group 2 (The students will do the
randomly. Let them spin the wheel.) inner/outer planet dance step)

Great! Uranus is from outer planet.

Because of that, group 2 got a star.

The teacher will call student from group 1 (The students will do the
randomly. Let them spin the wheel.) inner/outer planet dance step)

Excellent! Mercury is from inner planet.

Because of that, group 1 got a star.

The teacher will call student from group 2 (The students will do the
randomly. Let them spin the wheel.) inner/outer planet dance step)

Very Good.
Because of that, group 2 got a star.

Let’s all have a planet clap because all your

answers are correct! Great Job.

Alright, after the discussion and the activities,
we will now count the accumulated stars of
each group.
(The teachers count the stars of each group)

2. Value (The teacher will announce and award the

group who got the most stars)

How do we show appreciation for the planets, We can really show our
especially the planet where we live in? appreciation for the planets of
our solar system by simply
studying and knowing pieces
of information about them just
like what we’re doing today.
We should take care and be
responsible humans to help
and preserve our planet.

IV. Evaluation
Teacher: I prepared an individual activity to test whether you understand our discussion.
