Description This cleverly concealed conic is a perfect example of an ellipse being put
of Cleverly to use in the famous sport that is American football. The shape of the
Concealed football, that of an ellipse, is what defines the sport and what separates
Conic this ball from all other ones. Its shape gives it unique aerodynamic
properties and surprisingly, given the sport’s popularity, the fact that it is
an ellipse is largely unknown.

Part 4: Reflection
Write a paragraph explaining what you learned about conics and describe any
challenges you encountered.
I learned that conics are much more abundant in everyday life than I previously thought.
I was
aware that circles would be very common however, I wasn’t expecting to see parabolas
and
hyperbolas in such common objects, like bananas and hourglasses. A challenge I
encountered
was when I was writing my equations, I struggled writing an equation given only a
radius, so I © 2016 Connections Education LLC. All rights reserved. 5
