A time series is a sequence of data points that occur in
successive order over some period. This can be contrasted with cross-
sectional data, which captures a point in time. In investing, a time series
tracks the movement of the chosen data points, such as a security’s price,
over a specified period with data points recorded at regular intervals.
There is no minimum or maximum amount of time that must be included,
allowing the data to be gathered in a way that provides the information
being sought by the investor or analyst examining the activity.

began to appear in newspapers, and as technology advanced,
forecasts now extend beyond generic weather conditions. Many
governments have established thousands of weather forecasting
stations around the world in order to conduct atmospheric
measurements using computational methods for fast
compilations. These stations are outfitted with highly functional
devices and are linked together to collect weather data at various
geographical locations and forecast weather conditions at any
given time.
3. Time Series in Astronomy
Astronomy, as a specialized subject, relies heavily on
graphing objects, trajectories, and precise measurements, and as
a result, astronomical professionals are adept in time series in
calibrating devices and researching objects of interest. Time
series data has a long history in the astronomy area, for example,
sunspot time series were documented in China around 800 BC,
establishing sunspot data collecting as a well-recorded natural
phenomenon.
