ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
I Would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Porchelvan P
for his continued support, inputs and guidance. The combined team
work help us in achieving our objective and renders our project
successful.
Also, I would like thank the management of VIT University and
of SCE for providing us with this wonderful opportunity to learn new
things, and to expand our horizons through the ample amount of
facilities and opportunities available here in VIT university.
INTRODUCTION
As we look toward a new millennium in
air transportation, we must also look at the past and the present.
Future market forces that are impossible to predict will radically change
the growth of the aviation industry, which is less than a century old. In
order to analyze the aircraft of the future and the airports that will be
compatible with these aircraft, one should look also at what the
industry sees as the emerging issues.
Airport design and planning considerably
differs from the design of other transport infrastructure. The reasons
are the wide scope of regulation in civil aviation and the lack of links
between the Civil Aviation Act and the Building Act. The effect is that
the sequence of procedures, negotiation, and/or document approval is
not clearly defined. The situation is further complicated by the fact that
an airport is a unique construction both for the investor and for the
local building authority
AIM
• Our basic aim is to reduce the traffic congestion
• Ensure the safety of the passengers and people journey.
• Reduce the density of traffic
• Reduce the travelling time
OBJECTIVE
• Search and study the journal and articles to understand
about airport designing
• Understand basic components of the airport
• Prepare the proper plan of airport
• Understand the usage of various software which is
working for design the airport
Design of Our Airport
Airport
Airport is a place where aircraft can land and take
off and that is buildings for passengers to wait in.
BASIC COMPONENTS OF AIRPORT
• Airside area
• Terminal building
• Land side area
AIRSIDE AREA
RUNWAY
Runway is rectangular area on a land aerodrome
prepared for landing and take off aircraft.
Runway Length
• The primary reason why the runway length is of such critical
importance is that when the maximum takeoff weight of a
critical (aircraft in use) design aircraft exceeds 60,000 pounds is
considered a regional aircraft .
• The FAA states that the design objective for the primary
runway is to provide a runway length for all airplanes that will
regularly use it without causing operational weight restrictions.
Taxiway
• A taxiway is a path on airfield surface for the taxing of aircraft and
are intended to provide linkage between one part of the airfield
and another.
• Three types of taxiway:
1.Apron Taxiway
2.Dual parallel Taxiway
3.Terminal taxi lane
LENGTH: It should be as short as possible
APRON
The airport apron is the area of an airport where aircraft are
parked, unloaded and loaded refulled or boarded.
TERMINAL BUILDING
• An airport terminal is a building at an airport where passengers
transfer between ground transportation and facilities that
allow them to board and disembark from aircraft.
• Terminal passengers purchase tickets, transfer their luggage,
and go through security
• The buildings provide access to the airplanes (viagate) and they
are called concourses
• Smaller airports have one terminal while larges airports have
several terminals or courses.
Plan of Terminal Building
LANDSIDE AREA
• The Land side area consists of parking lots, public transport
railway stations and access roads. The planning and design of an
airport will not be completed without planning and design of land
side area.
• We are not provided the public transport railway station as the
airport is small and is at initial stage
Additional Facilities
Robot Assistants
Airport assistant robot and is designed to help passengers
navigate the terminal, leading them to their destination, as well as
answering questions. Passengers will find AIRSTAR robots at arrivals
and departures, bag collection and check-in areas
The robot uses a combination of voice recognition, artificial
intelligence, and spatial awareness to navigate the airport.
Virtual reality
Waiting in an airport can be dull - especially during a delay
And that’s part of the reason that a number of airports have begun
offering VR experiences to travelers in lounges and at gates.
Not only do VR games, films and experiences keep passengers
entertained, Netflix Experience”offered to
passengers by the advent of new
custimisable technologies.
Infrared Cameras
Infrared Cameras can provide true 24/7 coverage of the
airport perimeter regardless of lighting or weather conditions.
Thermal cameras can also integrated with additional sensors
such as radar systems to provide an extra layer of protection to the
perimeter.
Thermoelectric Generator
The thermoelectric generator harnesses temperature
differences to generate renewable electricity.
The secret is using a phenomenon known as radiative cooling,
which happens when surfaces on the ground radiate heat into the
atmosphere.
This process can make a surface cooler than air surrounding it,
which explains why frost forms on grasss even if the air temperature
above is freezing.
Speech Recogintion
Voice technology is hoped to provide the next steps to a seamless
experience for passengers.
Heathrow Airport has recently joined the trend, enabling
passengers to simply ask Alexa for flight updates.
Voice check-in services have been estabilished: United Airlines,in
conjunction with Google Assistant have enabled passengers to check-in
with a simple “Hey Google,check-in to my flight”.
Rough estimation for requiring area
CONCLUSION
The paper is an outcome of our research, building on long-term
experience in airport planning and design, and the elucidation of
planning and approval processes with experts from the Transport
Authority.
