1 GENERAL
Calcula/on of the Equipment Number will be done according to Bureau Veritas Rules by using a
formula, where the displacement of the Vessel, the breadth of the ship and the height from the
summer load line to the top of the uppermost house, as well as the profile view area of the hull,
superstructure and houses above the summer load waterline are included.
The formula is based on following assump/ons:
- the speed of the current may reach 2.5 m/s
- the wind speed of 25 m/s
- the Vessel can use a scope between 6 and 10 (the scope being the ra/o between length of
chain paid out and water depth

2 EQUIPMENT NUMBER
(BV rules Pt B, Ch 9, Sec 4)
The Equipment Number EN is to be obtained from the following formula:
EN = Δ2/3 + 2 h B + 0,1 A
where:
Δ = 655 t ….. moulded displacement of the ship, in t, to the summer load waterline
B = 10 m ….. moulded breadth of the ship
h = a + Σhn ….. effec/ve height, in m, from the summer load waterline to the top of the uppermost
house
(when calcula/ng h, sheer and trim are to be disregarded)
a = 2.05 m ……. freeboard amidships from the summer load waterline to the upper deck, in m
hn=2.6 m + 2,4 m height, in m, at the centreline of /er “n” of superstructures or deckhouses having
a
breadth greater than B/4. Where a house having a breadth greater than B/4 is above
a
house with a breadth of B/4 or less, the upper house is to be included and the lower
ignored.
h= 2,05 + 5,00 = 7,05 m
A= 213,8 m2 ……. Area, in m2, in profile view, of the parts of the hull, superstructures and houses
above
the summer load waterline which are within the length LE and also have a breadth
greater than B/4
LE …………….. Equipment length, in m, equal to L without being taken neither less than 96% nor
greater than 97% of the total length of the summer load waterline.
LSWL = 45,5 m .. length of the summer load waterline

According to NR 206 – Nov.1987 Classifica/on of Wind Propulsion Plants onboard Ships there are
addi/onal effects induced on ships to comply with BV Rules. Regarding anchor equipment there will
be an increase in Equipment Number EN due to increased drag of spars and standing rigging.
The Equipment Number will be obtained in adding an addi/onal term NA1 to the value EN deduced
from the applica/on of the aforemen/oned Rules.
For SoO Sails we have:
NA1 = 1,45 x (32,57 x 0,46 + 34,15 x 0,46 + 33,19 x 0,46)=1,45 (14,98 + 15,71 + 15,26) = 66,63
Increased equipment number: EN = 304,4

3 ANCHOR
According to Equipment number the vessel must have 2 anchors (and one anchor as spare) each
with a mass of 900 kg.
Where High Holding Power (HHP) anchors are used, the mass of each anchor is to be 675 kg which
is 75 % of that required for conven/onal anchors taking into account that their holding force is
twice as strong as that of a conven/onal anchor.
Specified anchor will be: HHP Pool N Type with a mass of 675 kg.

4 ANCHOR CHAIN
According to Equipment number the vessel must have total of 357,5 m of anchoring chain (178,75
m each anchor) connected with a stud link to the anchor, with a chain diameter of 26 mm for the
class Q2.
The Anchor chain will be composed of shackles (each with a length of 27,5 m) interconnected by a
kenter shackle.
The breaking load of the anchor chain will be 389 kN for class Q2.

According to Equipment number the vessel must have towline with a minimum length of 180 m
and minimum breaking load 174 kN.

6 MOORING LINES
According to Equipment number the vessel must have four (4) mooring lines each with a minimum
length of 140 m and minimum breaking load (MBL) 80 kN.

7 WINDLASS
The windlass is to be power driven and suitable for the size of chain cable and the mass of the
anchors. It is to be fiQed in a suitable posi/on in order to ensure an easy lead of the chain cables to
and through the hawse pipe. The deck in way of the windlass is to be suitably reinforced.
Power driven windlass should pull force on each gypsy wheel of:
F = 41,7 x d2
F = 41,7 x 262 = 10925 N = 11 kN
Anchor liOing speed should be minimum 9 m/min. At that speed minimum windlass power should
be calculated according following formula:
P=(F*12)/(60*η)≅2,75 kW
where: η=0,8
Each winch should be fiQed with drum brakes the strength of which is sufficient to prevent
unreeling of the mooring line when the rope tension is equal to 80 per cent of the breaking
strength of the rope as fiQed on the first layer.
Windlass break capacity (brake holding force):
Po = 0,8 x MBL
Po = 0,8 x 74 = 59,2 kN
Anchor windlass brake capacity if combined with a chain stopper is to be 1.2 FEN = 81 kN.
LPO1832841 : Anchor windlass brake capacity is to be 0.45 times the
breaking load of the chain. Refer to NR600, Chapter 5, Section 4, [4.1.2].

8 MOORING WINCHES/DRUMS
For mooring tensioning mooring winches with drums should be used. Nominal pulling force will be
1/3 of the minimum breaking load of the ropes that is 26,7 kN.

9 CHAIN STOPPER
The chain stopper's holding force should be minimum 80% of tensile breaking strength of the
anchor chain. For class Q2: 0,8 x 389 = 311 kN.
