The physical elements that make up a computer or electronic
system and everything else involved that is physically
tangible.

COMPUTER CASE
It is where all the main computer
Input and Output Device
components are housed such as the
motherboard, processor, memory, hard
disks, power supply, and more. Computer
casings come in all shapes and sizes,
with the common ones being tower casings
(as above), and small form factors that
fit in a backpack.

Back to Agenda Page

MOTHERBOARD
It is sometimes called the heart and the Input and Output Device
biggest circuit board of the computer. The
motherboard is the main board that is screwed
directly inside the computer case. All other
cards and everything else plugs directly into
the motherboard, hence its name. It
integrates all the physical components to
communicate and operate together.

Central Processing
Unit (CPU)
It is considered as the brain of the Processor
computer where all data crunching and
processing is done. It also calculates and
interprets instructions while you're
surfing the web, creating documents,
playing games, or running software
programs. It takes all the processes from
the RAM and processes them to perform the
tasks required by the computer system.

Back to Agenda Page

RANDOM ACCESS
MEMORY (RAM)
It is a temporary memory bank where your Data Storage
computer stores data it needs to retrieve
quickly. RAM keeps data easily accessible so
your processor can quickly find it without
having to go into long-term storage to
complete immediate processing tasks. It
provides fast read and write access. RAM is
volatile memory, meaning it loses all the
stored data when power is lost.

Back to Agenda Page

READ ONLY MEMORY
(ROM)
A type of computer storage containing non- Data Storage
volatile, permanent data that, normally, can
only be read, not written to. ROM contains the
programming that allows a computer to start up
or regenerate each time it is turned on. ROM
also performs large input/output (I/O) tasks
and protects programs or software instructions.
Once data is written on a ROM chip, it cannot
be removed.

GRAPHICS PROCESSING
UNIT (GPU)
Output Device
It processes the data from the
motherboard and sends the appropriate
information to the computer’s screen for
display. A graphics card also does
processing and calculations like a CPU, but
it is specialized for graphical purposes.
It processes all “graphic things” for
gaming, video, and photo editing.

Back to Agenda Page

SOUND CARD
It is an expansion card or IC for Input and Output Device
producing sound on a computer that can be
heard through speakers or headphones.
Although the computer doesn't need a sound
card, it's included on every machine as
either in an expansion slot or built into
the motherboard.

HARD DISK DRIVE
(HDD)
Input and Output Device
The hard disk is where data is
permanently stored – The operating systems,
the applications, your pictures, music,
documents, and more. It also functions as a
boot drive to run the operating system (OS)
from it. You can install operating systems
of many different kinds depending on your
needs.

Back to Agenda Page

POWER SUPPLY
UNIT (PSU) Output Device
A power supply unit mounts inside the
computer case. It is the component that
converts power from the wall outlet to
one that the computer needs.

Back to Agenda Page

MONITOR
It is an output device used to
Output Device
visualize the graphics information sent
from the computer’s GPU. Monitors are
where the text, images, and videos are
displayed. Some monitors may even have
built-in speakers, much like televisions.

Back to Agenda Page

KEYBOARD
It is an input device that is one of the ways
Input Device
to communicate with a computer. Used for putting
information including letters, words and numbers
into your computer. Typing a key from the
keyboard sends a small portion of information to
tell the computer which key was pressed. Once the
computer receives input from the keyboard, it can
use the keystrokes in digital form to produce a
specific task in any software that’s being used.

Back to Agenda Page

MOUSE
It is an input device that allows
Input Device
the user to move a pointer displayed on
the monitor and experience a more
intuitive interaction with computer
systems. A standard mouse these days will
usually come with at least 3 buttons
(left, center, right) and a scroll wheel.

Back to Agenda Page

PRINTER
A printer can take an image sent by
Output Device
a computer and deliver it onto a sheet of
paper. It does this by using the
information from the computer, and by
either using toner or ink, it deposits
one of these in a controlled and accurate
manner to form the image.

COMPUTER
SPEAKERS Output Device
A computer speaker is a piece of
hardware attached to a computer system
used to produce sound. The computer's
sound card has the signal used to
generate the sound from a computer
speaker.

Back to Agenda Page

HEADPHONES &
EARPHONES Output Device
Used for everything from listening
to music and other content on devices
like mobile phones, etc when on the move,
to more demanding applications like
serious music listening, audio and video
editing and the like.

Back to Agenda Page

MICROPHONE
It is used to convert sound waves into Input Device
electric waves or input the audio into
computers. It captures audio by converting sound
waves into an electrical signal, which may be a
digital or analog signal. This process can be
implemented by a computer or other digital audio
devices. It also allows us to record sounds.
Most modern laptops, tablets, and smartphones
already have one of these built-in.

WEB CAMERA
Web cameras are used to take photos
Input Device
and videos. Most modern laptops, tablets,
and smartphones come with a built-in
camera.

Back to Agenda Page

FANS & HEATSINKS
It is an active cooling solution used Input Device
to cool down integrated circuits in
computer systems, commonly the central
processing unit (CPU) It is used in modern
computer systems to keep the processor
cool. Without it, the processor could
easily overheat and become damaged.

SOFTWARE
Computer hardware is virtually useless without computer
software. Software is the programs that are needed to
accomplish the input, processing, output, storage, and

Operating System
The most important system software package
for any computer is its operating system.
Every computer system runs under the
control of an operating system. Operating
systems for computers that are shared by
many users are considerably more complex
than operating systems for personal
computers.

Database
Management
Systems
A database management system (DBMS) is a
software package designed to store,
retrieve, query and manage data. User
interfaces (UIs) allows data to be created,
read, updated and deleted by authorized
entities.

Networking
Software
a fundamental element for any networking
system. It helps administrators and
security personnel reduce network
complexities, and manage, monitor, and
better control network traffic. Network
software plays a crucial role in managing a
network infrastructure and simplifying IT
operations by facilitating communication,
security, content, and data sharing.

Software Utilities
is software designed to help analyze,
configure, optimize or maintain a computer.
[1] It is used to support the computer
infrastructure - in contrast to application
software, which is aimed at directly
performing tasks that benefit ordinary
users. However, utilities often form part
of the application systems.
