Enabling neighborhood residents to visualize and create a


vision for the future.

• Consultant Team of Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County


and NC A&T State University
• Contract signed May 2020

• Public Outreach held between August 2020 and July 2021

• Economic development (Columbia Heights Extension)
• Recreation and parks (Dreamland Park)
• Cost estimates and implementation schedule
Next Steps Upon adoption of the plans:
• Planning and Development Services will use the
recommendations as a supplement to the area plan
recommendations.
• Zoning decisions
• UDO text amendments

• Recommendations can also be considered for:


• Capital improvement funds
• Transportation funds
• Grant funding

• Private development

Recommendations: • Rehabilitation of existing housing and compatible infill
housing in the southern half of the neighborhood (Old Historic
Dreamland Park Dreamland Park)

• New housing of various types in the northern half of the


neighborhood (New Historic Dreamland Park)

• Transportation improvements throughout neighborhood:


• Intersection widening with round-a-bouts
• Opening of closed streets
• Streetscape improvements

• Addition of 3 new park/recreation areas


Recommendations: • Inclusion of missing middle housing types (cottage courts,
duplex, triplex, quadruplex, townhomes)
Columbia Heights • Mixed-use Pedestrian Mall along sound barrier
Extension / Skyline • Transportation improvements throughout neighborhood:
Village • Closing of streets such as Diggs Boulevard
• Redesign of other streets
• Streetscape improvements

• Neighborhood entrance signage

• Greening of Bowman Gray Stadium parking area
