INSTITUTIONAL FORMAT FOR RESEARCH PAPER CHAPTER 1 AND OTHER NECESSARY PARTS
IN PREPARATION FOR THE 2022 RESEARCH DESIGN HEARING
General Guidelines:
1. The margin for every page should be a 1-inch margin at the top, right, and bottom
and a 1.5-inch margin on the left side.
2. Title page, approval sheet, and table of contents do not follow the double spacing
of contents.
3. List of figures and tables should be written on an individual page next to a table of
contents
4. Theoretical framework should be placed in between the contents of the
theoretical/conceptual background.
5. Pagination is absolutely required. The title page down to the list of figures before
Chapter 1 should use roman numeral pagination. However, pagination on the title
cover does not appear or should be hidden along with the page where chapter 1 is
found.
6. The research paper should be written in the third person.
7. Paper size should be short with a dimension of 8.5 inches by 11 inches.
8. Each group should prepare 6 copies of the research output with the names of the
panelists
9. Softcopy of the research output should be provided in advance to the panelists.
Advisers are directed to save or upload the output in the google drive for backup.
I. Title Page : The research title should be capitalized (except
scientific names= italicized). Long title should be
written in an inverted pyramid. The font size is 12 and
the font property is bold. The font style should be
“Arial”. The title page should include to whom your
research is presented, name of the school and its
address. It also includes emphasis on the subject
discipline that necessarily and partially requires
research paper. The bottom part is the month and year
it is conducted.
II. Approval Sheet : The quoted research title should be capitalized and
bold including the names (with first name, middle
initial and last name) of the researchers. Name of the
subject and name of the examination should also be
in upper cases including the names of signatories of
the research paper advisory committee. The words
“approved and accepted and approved” should be
bold. Note: The name of the adviser should be on the
left side after the Vice-Chairman.
III. Table of Contents : The title heading “TABLE OF CONTENTS” should be
bold and capitalized while the word “Chapter”, only
the first letter should be capitalized. The “ PROBLEM
AND ITS SCOPE”, “THE PROBLEM”, “RESEARCH
METHODOLOGY”, “WORKS CITED”, “APPENDICES”
AND “CURRICULUM VITAE” should all be capitalized.
The list of tables should be on one separate page
same with the list of figures.
WORKS CITED
IV. PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE : This is where Chapter 1 starts. The words “THE
“PROBLEM AND ITS SCOPE” and “INTRODUCTION”
should be capitalized, and the property is bold
including the “Rationale of the Study”. The first or
second paragraph should be the general idea of the
research study and is going to be 10% to 15 %. The
general-specific-very specific rule should be strictly
followed. This part is plainly out from the readings you
have taken from the different resources. Citation is
not necessary, but the construction of contents and
convention should be original. This part emphasizes
the existing issues, problems, concerns and even
challenges that give you the idea to focus on. The
40% to 70% tackles about the specific topic relevant
to your research study that includes issues from the
international arena down to the local level. Likewise,
the researcher/s should point out the existing issues or
problems within the geographic location in relation to
the research study. The 10 % to15 % should be utilized
as to how the researcher unlocks the difficulties or find
novel solutions to address the certain gaps and
existing challenges. On the last paragraph, technical
words such as hence, henceforth, henceforward,
subsequently, from this point forward, therefore,
thereupon, and wherefore can be utilized to point out
the objective of the study and its probable plan of
activities or output.
V. Theoretical Background : The theoretical background speaks about the use of
theories (ten years back), concepts, models, legal
bases, and other justifications relevant to the study.
This supports the statement of the problem, the
instrument being used and the framework that allows
better understanding of the research study.
Technically, this must use citation either incorporated
in the text or not incorporated following the text
style format which is the American Psychological
Association (APA) 7th edition. This is the crucial part of
the study that provides supporting evidence and
literature review of the variables being utilized in the
study. It provides the conceptual basis, justification,
analysis, and interpretation of the problem under
investigation. It also means that you are synthesizing
research materials on this part. So, when you
synthesize research on your topic, you should be
bringing together elements of the research to make
points about the research in relation to your study
and, specifically, your research problem. This is where
also you can place your theoretical framework (the
first figure that will appear on your research paper.)
The theoretical framework has also rule to follow. The
left box/shape should bear the theories used in the
study while the right box/shape should have enclosed
the legal bases/concepts. Below is another box
possibly where you can place the model/structured
design before the box/shape of the research title. It
is necessary that the last box/shape should be the
output of the study. Remember, when referring to the
work of previous researchers, use past verb tense.
Whatever a previous researcher said, did or wrote
happened at some specific, definite time in the past
and is not still being done. Results that were relevant
only in the past or to a particular study and have not
yet been generally accepted as fact also should be
expressed in past tense. Use present tense to express
general truths or facts or conclusions supported by
research results that are unlikely to change—in other
words, something that is believed to be always true.

Sample Theoretical Framework
VI. THE PROBLEM : “THE PROBLEM” should be placed at the
center of the page. The “Statement of the
Problem” should be bold and aligned in the
left margin. Technically, the paragraph or the
sentence should be written in a present tense
(past verb tense would only be used when the
researcher/s is/are done conducting the
study). This part bears the objective of the
study as well as the research
questions/problems.
VII. Significance of Study : The “Significance of the Study” should be
written bold and aligned in the left margin. This
part illustrates the importance of research
study to varied groups of individuals. This
explains how the research provides ideas,
information, techniques, benefits, and
strategies.
VIII. RESEARCH METHODOLOGY : The “RESEARCH METHODOLOGY” should be aligned
at the center. In this part, the researcher should have
to use future tense and present verb tense in
explaining the title of the study, type of model/theory
being used, the type of research instrument
(adopted, adapted or researcher-made), how the
instrument is provided to the respondents, type of
respondents, how the data are gathered or
collected.
IX. Flow of Study : In this part, the research is encouraged to use the
IPO model by Gouran (1973) or Hackman and Morris
(1975). The input should not be stated in an
interrogative format. The text inside the shape/box
can be modified to fit as a one-page document.
X. Research Environment : The “Research Environment” should be aligned in
the left margin and must be bold. This is where the
researcher can describe the environment or local of
the study. The third figure is placed on this part.
Technically, we are to utilize the Map of Tabuelan
and incorporate picture/image where the study is
conducted using arrows or points of emphasis.
XI. Research Respondents : The “Research Respondents” should be written bold
and aligned in the left side. This is where the
researcher/s can describe the types and categories
of respondents. This is where also the researcher/s can
select the type of sampling which would suit to
their/his/her study. It must be clearly stated how the
respondents are selected and provided with the
research instrument. The mode/modality can be
emphasized on this part. Remember! The first table
should appear on this part and is considered as
Table 1 illustrating the categories of respondents and
how they are distributed to the group.
XII. Research Instrument : The “Research Instrument/s” should be written bold
and aligned in the left side. This is where the
researcher/s can provide details on what type of
instrument is being used in the study, the number of
the respondents, the parts of the instruments for clear
understanding and consistency of the research parts.
XIII. Research Procedure : The “Research Procedure” should be written bold
and aligned in the left side. In this part, the
researchers discuss the steps how they arrive with the
theories, research methods used, the distribution of
the research instruments, and other significant
procedures to organize the conduct of research
study.
XIV. Treatment of Data : The “Treatment of Data” should be written bold
and aligned in the left side. Every part of the research
questionnaire should be explained as to how it is
treated. Statistical tool is emphasized in this part.
XV. Scoring Procedure : The “Scoring Procedure” should be written bold
and aligned in the left side. Depending on the design,
the researcher must include here the scale, verbal
description, criteria, and rating to gauge the level of
the respondents based on their responses.
XVI. DEFINITION OF TERMS : The “DEFINITION OF TERMS” should be capital, bold
and aligned at the center. Terms/concepts based
on the research title, statement of problem,
strand/program should be defined clearly and
operationally.
XVII. WORKS CITED (Bibliography) : This part should use the same text format which is the
American Psychological Association (APA). The
names of the authors should be alphabetized. Use a
hanging indent for any citations that go over one line.
XVIII. APPENDICES : This is placed on one page at the center. This
includes APPENDICES A to C where appendix A is a
letter request to the school or venue where the study
is conducted, Appendix B is a letter request to the
respondents and Appendix C is the research
questionnaire.
XIX. CURRICULUM VITAE : This part is absolutely the researchers’ profile which
includes the picture with white background
(passport/2by2 size). This part is divided into eight (8)
parts such as the personal data, educational
attainment, seminars and trainings attended, awards
and certificates, organization affiliations, personal
qualities and lastly the skills of the researcher. It is
encouraged to have unified background of the
picture as well as the attire to be worn out during the
pictorial/documentation
Other Guidelines:
1. The researchers should know every part of the study and have profound
knowledge of the purpose of the study.
2. Possible respondents and output are predetermined/pre-asked by the panel.
3. Citation on the use of the adapted/adopted questionnaire should be
emphasized during the title hearing.
4. Create a system flow of the title hearing presentation.
5. Organization and assignment of tasks should be given priority.
6. Researchers should create a backup plan for a contingency to avoid delay in
the presentation.
7. Researchers are evaluated according to the criteria for the research design
hearing
