Dear Mum and Dad,

n
io

I found a job! I’m working on an (0) organic fruit farm in Currumbin Valley at the moment. The farm is 30 miles
at

from the city. It’s very calm and (11) here. I like being in the countryside and not in the (12)
city. The working conditions are good. We aren’t (13) to start work until 7am (that’s late for a farm) and
N

then we work until 2pm with a lunch break in between. Jen and Carl, who own the farm, are great. They really
(14) the work they’re doing and they want to have a positive (15) on the land they own. They’re
ht

really well-organized too – when I first arrived, I did a (16) that they prepared so I would know exactly
ig

what to do.
yr

When I’m not working, I’ll go into the city where there are (17) parks and lakes where you can
op

(18) out with friends and relax. There is also a supermarket that is open (19) where they have a
(20) of products. It should be easy for me to find everything I need.
C

I’ll write to you again soon.

Lots of love,

Martha

ng
In November 2016, Kevin Newton’s Bus Shelter opened its doors for the first time on the Isle of Wight in
the UK. It’s actually an old double-decker bus that Kevin changed to be a place where people can live,

ni
sleep and cook. The bus is located in the peaceful suburbs of the island’s main town and is open 24/7.

ar
Anyone who doesn’t have anywhere to sleep can head to the bus and expect a warm welcome.

Le
Kevin’s goal was to make it unnecessary for people on the Isle of Wight to sleep outside. Anyone without
a place to sleep can live in the shelter for as long as they want if they’re willing to follow the Bus
Shelter’s rules. Residents are required to get help from local agencies who help homeless people find

c
housing and jobs. They also have to do paid or voluntary work to keep the bus running. So far, the Bus

hi
Shelter project really seems to be having a positive impact on the Isle of Wight. Kevin hopes that people

in other parts of the UK will start using old buses to house the homeless soon, too.
