*This sheet will need to be embedded in your Weebly page for the History Of Gaming
assignment in order to pass*

Student Name William price

Task 1 of 3:
Introduction: write the script that you will be recording for your introduction here. Introduce yourself
and say what the documentary will be about. Maybe make a statement that you are going to challenge or
ask a question that you’re going to try and answer through the course of the documentary and in the
conclusion.

Hello my name is Will and today I will be showing you my history of gaming and giving you the reasons why
they are significant to the gaming genre. I will be answering a question for you today which is what is the
significant link between each one of these games to see if there is a link between each game in the massive
industry. I will also be showing you why each game is so significant to me and why I chose them.

Task 2 of 3:
Audio: Visual:
(script being narrated/additional sounds heard) (what will the audience be seeing?)
The first game that we have is the original Pac-Man
which was released in 1980 by nacmo and this game
rose in popularity fast with the character design
being simplistic yet amazing. Pac-Man originated on
a classic arcade cabinet and I know that many of you
will not know what an arcade cabinet is but back in
the day they were really popular. This game
originated in Japan but soon enough spread all over
the world making millions of dollars and changing
the gaming industry forever and the way Pac-Man
did this was by creating a great competitive scene
where two arcade cabinets would be put back to
back and two players would compete to see who
could get the most amount of points. Pac-Man was
also introduced into the videogame hall of fame and
was also voted by a Dixons poll the best game of all
time.

Next up we have another arcade classic. Donkey

kong. This game was released in 1981 and was a
platformer made by Nintendo. This game also
originated in Japan and made millions of dollars
world wide with the game also becoming
competitive. The significance this game had was that
it technically rebranded the platformer genre with
people now calling platformer games kong games
due to its mass popularity. This game would also
create great success for Nintendo which would
become one of the biggest manufacturers in the
world. Donkey kong obtained the title of the best
snes game as it was eventually ported onto the snes
causing a resurge of the fandom.

My third game is super mario bros which was

released in 1985 by Nintendo once again. This game
was released along side the famicom and the snes
and this game would boom in popularity soon
enough becoming the most popular game series of
all time and everyone knows the designer of this
game Shigeru Miyamoto. He is one of the most
famous game designers ever and his fame would
continue to rise after this. This game was multi-
player but not the type that we all know and love
now which was online but this was a multiplayer
where you would actually have to be in the same
room as the person to play. This game sold 20.61
million copies which isn’t much in todays standards
but back in 1985 this was unbelievable because at
home gaming was thought to be dead. In my
opinion this game popularised story based side
scrollers and helped make some amazing games due
to other companies trying to mimic mario to gain
their own success.

Next up we have street fighter which was released

in 1987and was one of the first fighting games
released. This game was released on a arcade
cabinet and was a 2 player game which was a 1v1
but you could play it as a 1v computer which would
be an ai which you would play against. This game
was really popular with the entire franchise being
one of the highest earning franchises of all time
making a total of 12.2billion dollars. They also sold
500,000 arcade units of the original street fighter
game. This game brought people together and is
some peoples best childhood memories. The reason
this game was so popular was due to it’s
complicated combo system as this would entice
people to learn new combos and keep playing the
game to show off their new moves to other people.
Although I never got to personally play this game in
an arcade I have played it as an import and from
what I could tell it was really fun.

The next game we have is sonic the hedgehog which

was released in 1991 by sega for the sony mega
drive. Sonic was a platformer which was designed to
compete with the very popular game at the time
mario. A really good thing that sonic did which made
the game really popular was add a really good story
to the game which allegedly hinted towards
environmental issues at the time with the main
villain called doctor egg man destroying
environments and turning them into factories which
I personally think is a really good way to get the
younger generation into realising what was going
wrong in the world. This game preformed really well
selling over 30 million copies and grossing over
roughly 2196 million dollars between the sony mega
drive and the master system. This game was also the
best selling game on any sega console which is a
really good achievement but apart from that this
game didn’t get any more awards unfortunately.
This game caused a sort of battle between Nintendo
and Sony causing them both to make each game
better then the last which was the impact this game
made on gaming history.

Next up we have pokemon red and green which was

released in 1996 by Nintendo for the Gameboy. This
game is a role-playing game which was open world.
This game rose in popularity fast becoming one of
the biggest games of all time. Now I personally love
this game as well as the rest of the game series due
to its very unique style of game play. In this game
you can catch and use these creatures called
pokemon which would become some of the most
beloved video game characters of all time. But you
would battle other pokemon in random encounters
and you could eliminate the other pokemon to gain
experience points to level up your pokemon which is
an amazing concept. Now this game was single
player but could be made multiplayer via the
Gameboy link cable which would connect the two
devices together allowing you to battle or trade the
pokemon that you have. Now this game boomed in
popularity selling over 70 million copies world wide.
This popularity gave Nintendo an idea to create an
anime later on which would run for years and is still
running to this date which is insane. This game
showed other developers how role-playing games
should be and sparked a new era of the role-playing
game industry.

The next game is Super smash brothers released in

1999 for the Nintendo 64. Now this game had so
much hype due to the premiss of the game being
that you can use Nintendo characters to fight other
Nintendo characters that are not in the same game
and the fact that these characters are now in a game
together was an unreal concept that everyone
loved. This game was a fighting game which was in a
environment where 2 characters could battle. This
game was multiplayer but it wasn’t online you had
to all be in the same room together and had to link a
different controller to the n64. Now this game only
sold 5.5 million copies but was fully loved by each
person who purchased the game and later on new
games would come out with more characters from
the Nintendo universe being added. This game
didn’t win many awards but did win the IGN best
fighting game which isn’t a bad title. This game was
the first to have characters who have never crossed
each other fight each other which was an amazing
concept.

Next up is gta 3 released in 2001 for the ps2 and the

xbox. This game is an open world action game. Now
the reason this is in my list is because this was the
first gta game that I have ever played and it really
got me into the franchise. This game was single
player was was an amazing game and the world in
game replicates cities in real life for example gta 3
was loosely based on the city of new York which was
an amazing concept. This game was really popular
with the game selling 14,5 million copies giving the
achievement of best selling game of 2001. This game
really popularised the concept of crime games and
boomed the market for crime type games.
Next up is assassin’s creed released in 2009 by
Ubisoft for the xbox 360 and the ps3. This game was
a stealth style game and became a really popular
making the Ubisoft really popular. This game also
added action elements and followed a non-linier
story line allowing for side quests and grinding the
game to become much more powerful. This game
was unfortunately single player but would have
thrived as a multiplayer game. This game sold 8.8
million copies and won best action adventure game
of 2006 at the E3 convention.

Next up is Half-life alyx made in 2020 by valve. This

game was released on VR and was the long awaited
next installement for the half-life series which was
really popular. This game was a action adventure
game where you followed a linier path and collect
weapons to fight monsters. Now fans of the half-life
series loved this game as it tied up a lot of ends In
the half-life story. This game sold over 9million
copies and people are still buying this game to this
date. This game won the best vr game at the game
of the year awards and showed other developers
what potential virtual reality has and what it can do.
This game really gives me hope for the future of VR.

Task 3 of 3:
Conclusion: write the script that you will be recording for your conclusion here. revisit your initial
question or statement from the introduction, recap some highlights of the games you’ve studied that
support your question/statement and suggest whether the statement is supported or what the answer to
the question was.
Now to conclude all of this I can finally answer my question and unfortunately the answer is there isn’t
really a significant link between all these games but each one has their own link to why they have been
important to the history and development of gaming. Thank you all so much for listening today I have been
your host will and I will catch you all in the next one piece.
