PART-A
Answer all questions. ; (10x4=40 Marks)
1. A vector field is given by A =yzax+xzay+xyaz show that it is both
irrotational and solenoidal.
2. Define the Laplacian of a vector field.
3. Derive the unit of the Poynting vector.
4. The electric field intensity associated with a plane wave travelling in perfect
dielectric medium is given by Ex(z,t)= 10 cos(2x x10" — 0.12z)v/m. Calculate
the velocity of propagation and the intrinsic impedance.

. a) Find the transformation matrix for transforming the unit vectors in the cylindrical
co-ordinate system to those in the rectangular co-ordinate system.
b) Transform the vector B = zax + (1 x)ay +y/xaz into cylindrical co-ordinates.

through coil. A, find the rms value of the induced voltage across the open
terminals of coil - B.

a) Calculate the characteristic impedance, propagation constant and velocity of
propagation at 400 KHz for.a transmission line having L = 0.5 mH/km

b) A transmission line has the following constants R= 10.49, L = 3. 66 mH,
C= 0.00835 pH and G = 0.08.9. Calculate Zo,a,f and vp at @ = 5000
radians sec.

and perfect dielectric.
b) Explain the reflection and refraction of plane electromagnetic waves at boundary
