Reflective Essay

On January 30, 2020, the first case in the Philippines was discovered, involving a 38 years old
Chinese lady who was being held at San Lazaro Hospital in Metro Manila. A posthumous test
result from a 44 years old Chinese man came back positive for the virus on February 1, making
the Philippines the first country outside of China to have a verified death from the sickness.
The Philippines confirmed its first local transmission. Since then, the virus has spread to
provinces in the country and day by day there are a lot of cases has been added and also
deaths. Since March 15, 2020, national and local governments have imposed community
quarantines as a means of limiting the spreading of the virus and because of this life became
harder.
During this time our daily living has been affected. My mother loss her job as well as my father
and that was a nightmare in our family. My parents always fight and it affected us, they decided
not to talk to each other until now. I’ve observed that this pandemic has a big impact not only
on us but to other people. They also lost their job and that leads to hunger and poverty. All of
this really sucks and the new normal was stressing me out. The new normal mode of education
really hard for us even if it is really convenient and we can save money but for me having a face
to face classes is the best but for safety of everyone, we really need to adjust and cope up to
this kind of situation. For me the most important thing that I have learned in this pandemic is it
has shown that all we need is each other to make the best out of the worst case scenario. I
know a lot of us are stressing about school, it affected our physical and mental health but I
think the best we could do right now is to pray and be thankful that we are still able to wake up,
see the sunrise and feel the air tickling our skins, dream about we can able to go back on our
normal life without this pandemic.

Mostly this pandemic has left our lives in distraught and has tipped our arises, it has come as a
surprise to some of us and has changed the way we live and the things we did on a daily basis.
Having this kind of experience has made me realize the importance of appreciating even the
little things and the people around us. I can say that this is a blessing in disguise for me because
it teach me how to be strong and the importance of self love as well as I’ve become closer to
God and my family even if mom and dad is not together again but still acceptance is the key, we
cannot push the things that are not meant to be. This pandemic taught us the spirit of
togetherness and giving. This has come to show us that money and material things are not that
important as the human life. It has shown how much greatness can come from working
together as one and I know if we work together, we can beat Covid-19.
