AniscalMA - Learning Activity 2.1 2.3

The document provides information about learning activities in Module 2, including: 1) A stem and leaf display and frequency distribution of percentage of respiring bacteria sample data. The most frequent percentages were between 40-41%. 2) Calculation of the median, first quartile, and third quartile of another data set on percentage of respiring bacteria. The median was 30.6, first quartile was 30.2, and third quartile was 31.9. 3) A box plot showing outliers and extremes of a third data set on percentage of respiring bacteria, with an outlier at 45.0% and maximum of 32.4%.

As we can see in the SALD table, we can infer that the most frequent percentage of respiring
bacteria in the sample is between 40-41 percent. We can also tell that it is where the pic of
our histogram located. Percentages below and above 40-41 percent are minority.
B. To construct a frequency distribution with classes of equal width:
1. 𝑅 = Highest – Lowest = 51.2-22.9 =28.3
2. 𝐾 = 𝐾 = 1 + 3.322 log (25) =5.644 ≈ 6
3. 𝐶′ = R/K =28.3 / 6=4.72 ≈ 4.7; C=4.7

4. To find the first quartile: (𝑄1 = 𝑃25)
a. Finding: 𝑛𝑘/100: [12 (25)]/100 = 3
b. Since we obtained ____3_____in a), we have

𝑄1 = 𝑃25 =X3 = 30.2

Interpretation: We can say that the bottom 25% of this data set is less than 30.2

5. To find the third quartile: (𝑄3 = 𝑃75)

a. Finding: 𝑛𝑘/100: [12 (75)]/100 = 9
b. Since we obtained _____9_____in a), we have
𝑄3 = 𝑃75 =X9= 31.9
Interpretation: We can say that the bottom 75% of this data set is less than 31.9
