INTERSTELLAR; THE REACTION
While watching the movie, I wondered why they named it ‘Interstellar’, I didn't even
know what interstellar is until I looked it up in Google. I learned that interstellar means
“traveling among the stars, especially of the Milky Way galaxy” (Dictionary, Merriam-
Webster, Accessed 9 Dec. 2021.) The movie was confusing, especially the parts where they
talked about the Gargantua black hole and when Cooper was talking about gravity in the
later part of the movie but it was still very enjoyable and interesting to watch. While
watching the movie, I felt all sorts of emotions and I had a lot of questions in mind, like “How
can Cooper communicate to his daughter in the past and present while using gravity?” or
“Can gravity be used as a form of communication in the 21st century?”
After watching the movie, I kind of understood the movie since this is my 3rd time
watching it (I watched it again after the movie ended). All I know is that earth’s supply of
resources is slowly running out and NASA tries to look for their new ‘home’ before humans
become extinct, so the team of explorers goes to travel inside the wormhole in space.
Interstellar is all about science, mostly about the concepts of gravity, time, and relativity. We
can clearly see that it also has something to do with Einstein’s special theory of relativity, it is
a theory that “concerns the relationship between space and time” (Study.com, 2019) The
concept that I was able to catch was just like what teacher said, Einstein’s theory of Time
Dilation, the idea that time can change based where the observer is located. I also
observed gravitational time dilation in the movie, I did some additional reading and I found
out that gravitational time dilation is a phenomenon where time runs slower when a person is
in a higher gravitational potential. Like what we see in the movie, 1 hour on miller's planet
resulted in 7 years on earth and this also explains the age difference of Cooper and Murphy
at the end of the movie.
This theory is surprisingly interesting in my view. The movie made me understand the
theory better, and it made me wonder how Albert Einstein thought of all these theories. This
movie made me appreciate science even more. The 1st time I watched this movie in the 6th
grade, I felt bored and I eventually fell asleep because I didn’t understand anything. To be
totally honest, I expected myself to fall asleep in the 1st hour of the movie, but shockingly, I
enjoyed watching the movie because of the unexpected events that happened. Does it
change my perspective about God? No, it does not and it never will change. I will always
believe that God made everything, because the Bible said so. God made literally
everything, He just let us humans discover what it is. A bible verse from Proverbs 16:4 says
“The LORD has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.”
(biblegateway.com) Scientists can only prove and study what God has made, God made
everything with a purpose :)
