INTRODUCTION
The On-the-Job training and Community Immersion is required in the Bachelor of

Science in Criminology program. It will be undertaken by the students in the first

semester of the fourth curriculum year level and they will be assigned to different areas

of the community. The uique feature of the program is the student’s contribution to

“police visibility”.

The Practicum is a course of study designed to provide experiences for BS

Criminology students in police work, operation of jail or penal institution, fire

departments, security agencies and such other agencies compromising the five (5)

pillars of the Criminal Justice System. It prescribes the supervised application of

previously studied theories in Criminology specially on psychology of crimes, crijme

detection and investigation and criminalistics.

This course also aims to provide the students with an opportunity to understand

the economic, social, and cultural reality of, and by allowing them to interact and relate

with community. The course shall have three phases namely: “pre-immersion phase”

refers to the preparatory stage of the practicum. This pertains to the activities conducted

by the Higher Educational Institution (HEI) prior to the immersion phase. On the other

hand, “immersion phase” refers to the practicum proper, where the students gain

practical, hands-on and field experience. The “post immersion phase” refers to the

cultimation of the practicum proper. As a general rule only BS Criminology students who
have completed all academic units shall be allowed to enroll in one-semester practicum

requirement. However, the HEI may allow the graduating students to enroll not more

than six (6) units in addition to the practicum. The students enrolled in this course shall

be called “Criminology Intern”.

As mandated under Article 4 paragraph of CMO 37, series of 2010 the school is

mandated to prepare a booklet or a similar material defining the specific details and

procedures as to how the practicum shall be conducted as well as necessary details

germane to the understanding.

On the Job Training a program for criminology students designed to immerse

them in a work environment relevant to the knowledge obtained inside the classroom,

with an attempt to enhance the knowledge, skills and attitudes of students towards work

necessary for satisfactory job performance.

morning with Pat. Pareja because of many vehicle crossing road that cause

At afternoon we return to our designated area on University of Santo

Tomas Legazpi with intern from bicol college. We are given task to perform
a checkpoint and check the license of every vehicle driver that cross the
checkpoint.
