ABOUT RGNUL
The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala (RGNUL) is an
autonomous National Law University (NLU) established under the
second wave of reforms instituted by the Bar Council of India.
Established in 2006, RGNUL has garnered a pan-India reputation
as a stellar institution for legal research and education. In May 2015,
RGNUL became the first and the only NLU to have been accredited
by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with
an ‘A’ grade. In March 2018, RGNUL was amongst the four NLUs to
have been granted autonomous status by the University Grants
Commission. The University has been ranked among the top 10 law
schools in India in the National Institutional Ranking Framework
(NIRF), by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development,
Government of India.

Our endeavour is to serve
the society through reforms
in legal services by way of preparing professionally
competent lawyers, inquisitive researchers, able
administrators, conscientious judicial officers, and
above all, socially responsible citizens, who shall be
wholeheartedly and continuously engaged in the
process of nation building." In continuance to fulfill
this vision and keep the essence of learning in RGNUL
alive, we'll be organizing the 11th RGNUL National
Moot Court Competition 2023.
ABOUT RGNUL MCC
Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab has always
envisioned serving the society through reforms in legal services by
way of preparing professionally competent lawyers. The current
moot is a complete reflection of the motto of our university which
is ‘knowledge empowers’. Mooting is always an integral part of a
law student’s life, and thus, finds a very regular mention at our
university. To further the mooting culture of our university and to
provide the participants with a platform to showcase their
advocacy, the University organizes various moot court
competitions. The RGNUL Moot Court Committee is one of the
leading and most active committees here at RGNUL, the
significance of the committee is immense. The committee has
been known for organizing various moots and related activities
aimed at promoting a positive sense for mooting culture. The
committee also facilitates the allotment of various national and
international moot court competitions to the teams who proudly
represent RGNUL in these competitions.
ABOUT CASCL
for Advanced Studies
RGNUL has established a Centre
in Criminal Law (CASCL) to undertake advanced study
and research in the emerging areas of criminal law.
The Centre aims to bring about reforms in the
substantive and procedural criminal law in view of the
modern crime scenario; development of sound
criminal justice policy and practice; to generate respect
for human rights and the rule of law in the
administration of criminal justice; training and
technical assistance to agencies concerned with the
administration of criminal justice; renewal of
sentencing policies and correctional systems;
revamping justice to the victims of crime, and legal aid
and speedy disposal of the criminal cases.
About the 11th RGNUL National
Moot Court Competition, 2023
The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law's flagship moot
has grown into one of the biggest in the nation. The goal is to
develop competent and talented lawyers and inquisitive
researchers in order to help society through legal reforms. It
was with this objective in mind that the idea for this Flagship
moot was first conceived. Since the competition's inception
in 2011, students from all across the country have joined us in
rendering it a success. Previously, the RGNUL Moot Court
Competition focused on enthralling aspects of Competition
Law, Constitutional Law, and Criminal Law.
The RGNUL Moot Court Committee is elated to inform you
that the 11th edition of the moot will be in the form of a Trial
Advocacy in association with the Centre for Advanced
Studies in Criminal Law, RGNUL. This edition's moot
proposition has been drafted to test the knowledge, research
aptitude and application of law by the participants on various
aspects of Criminal Law and Trial Advocacy.
The Winners and Runners-up of the 11th edition will
receive cash prizes of INR 30,000 and INR 20,000
respectively, in addition to other awards and opportunities
from our collaborators. The Best Orator (Preliminary
Rounds), the Best Written Submissions and the Best
Researcher will also be felicitated with awards and cash
prize.
The moot shall be organized on-campus (offline) from the
6th-8th of April 2023. The registration for the moot shall
open in the last week of January 2023. A total of 30 slots are
available for the moot, meaning thereby that the
registration for the moot shall take place on a first-come-
first-serve basis. The interested teams are requested to get
their Universities provisionally registered by filling the
Google form given in the Rulebook. Upon receiving the
acknowledgment of the provisional registration,
participants are requested to follow the procedure given in
the Rules for final registration. The Registration fee for the
moot is INR 6,000/-.
