IS THE PHILIPPINES A COLLECTIVIST SOCIETY?
The Philippines is a collectivist society in which they priorities the need
of the group or family, They avert delivering unwanted news, or
expression their true opinions. The group would likely want to stay
together and expect each individual to their role for the benefit of the
group.
Their values are centered on maintaining social harmony and
maintaining great relationships. They put significance on the opinions of
other individuals, what their actions are or what they will say, which
influences most of the behaviors of Filipinos.

HOW DOES THIS SHAPE OUR IDEA OF SELF?
The Philippines are known to be a family oriented country; so much so that
they have traditions built around families and extended relations, and have
a social hierarchy based on status and age. They cater to family and other
people that visit their homes, prioritizing their comfort and making them
feel like family. They also prioritize the wants and needs of the group,
disregarding their own in order to benefit their group.
People are linked rather than independence in collectivism. One defends
oneself by taking into account the wants and feelings of others since the
success and well-being of the group determine the success and well-
being of the individual.
