The Tourist Destination and Its


Attractions
Destinations
-are the main location or locations that travellers intend to visit.

Attractions - are the places or activities that visitors see and do once at the
destination.
Classifications of Destinations
1. Urban Destinations
- Is the gateway to the locality, region or country that is the center of
economic activities and infrastructure development.
- Most of the attractions in the city are built.
- It is the center financial trade and transactions.
2. Rural Destinations
- The strength of the rural destination lies in the physical and natural
environment.
- It may also include the farmed environments or natural looking
environment that were prepared by man primarily for agricultural
purposes and gains.
3. Coastal Destination
- Is found in the coastal areas where one can find beaches, ranging from
calm seashores to raging oceans.
- Mostly visited by the rich and the affluent individuals who can afford to
pay the high price these facilities charge.
Classifications of Tourist Attractions
2 Categories of Tourist attractions:

1. Natural Attractions- were designed by Mother Nature and remain as such for the locals and
tourists to enjoy.

-It is meant to enrich the visitors’ experience and enable them to take home precious memories upon
returning to their places of origin.

These may include:

- Natural Physical Attractions


- Wildlife
- Natural Resources
- Climate

2. Man-made
2. The Man-made Attractions
-are artificial attractions which may include the “built” environments.
These include:
-Historical artifacts
- Religious items
- Arts
- Songs
-Dances
-Local versions of Theater
Product requirements and considerations that are
expected of attractions:
These items include:

- Signages in the location


- Accessibility
- Operating hours
- Amenities onsite like: parking, toilets, signs, bins, shops, acces of persons
with disabilities( PWDs)
Cultural Attractions
-are the attractions that the people of the locality have built, lived with, and
preserved throughout their history.

- these are the attractions that provide a glimpse of who the people are and
what their experiences have been. Like:

-Cathedral and Churches - Local Theaters- for songs, plays and dance

- Religious monuments - Popular landmarks

- Historic Houses and Castles

- Historic Properties and Sites

-Museums and Galleries


Leisure Attractions
- Are the attractions that people choose to participate that are considered
personal leisure activities, which will give them a sense of rest, relaxation
and reprieve from the daily concerns. Like:
- Spas - Pubs, bars and Dance Clubs
- Salons
- Shopping Centers
- Meditation areas
- Walking Districts
- Biking Districts
- Country/ City Parks
- Farms
- Gardens
- Leisure, themed, or amusement parks
Special Attractions
- Are attractions that cannot be categorically included in the above-listed
classifications because there are special circumstances to them,Like:
- Cruise Ships
- Conferences or Seminars by Invitation
- Festivals
- Fiestas
- Specialized Events:
- Olympics, Miss Universe Pageants, etc
