Rationale

Much has changed since time immemorial. Human beings have encountered many changes over the last century especially in their social relationships and social structures. Of these changes,
one can say that globalization is a very important change, if not, the “most important”. This introduces to students the state of the world today and the new global order. What does
"globalization" mean both theoretically and from the perspective of individuals and societies affected by the global firms, process, and movement? The phenomenon of globalization is thus
examined from a variety of perspectives as well as its effects on traditional cultures and communities, nations, and political institutions, and local, national and regional economies.
Course Description

Globalization and its impact on individuals, communities and nations, challenges and responses. This course introduces students to the contemporary world by examining the multifaceted
phenomenon of globalization. Using the various disciplines of the social sciences, it examines the economic, social, political, technological, and other transformations that have created an
increasing awareness of the interconnectedness of peoples and places around the globe. To this end, the course provides an overview of the various debates in global governance, development,
and sustainability. Beyond exposing the student to the world outside the Philippines, it seeks to inculcate a sense of global citizenship and global ethical responsibility.
