Functionality Changes Section 1 Release Notes

Functionality Changes
New functionality and features added since the last release and functionality and
features that have changed or been removed are described in each of the component
sections.

Product Support
Contact ABB technical support for assistance in problem reporting.

Backups
It is recommended that an image backup be made after installing the 800xA System
software and before Information Management software is installed. Make a second
backup after Information Management software installed.

Oracle for Information Management can be configured to span multiple

partitions. Any backup must contain all Oracle files from all partitions. Any
reboots between backups of partitions containing Oracle will corrupt the backup
(Oracle will not restart after the restore of the backup).

Licensing
Information Management server software, history logs, and desktop client software
must be licensed before they will function correctly.

Server Software
Server software components are licensed on a per-server basis. This means one
license entitles the software to be installed on one server. One base history license
must be purchased for each server.

History Logs
Information Management history logs are licensed on a system basis. The license
resides on the system licensing server (Aspect Server), and the quantity of logs
specified by that license may be distributed in any combination on the Information

8 3BUF001135R5011
Section 1 Release Notes Desktop Client Software

Management application servers in the system. This license does not account for
consolidating of historical data. A separate license is required for consolidation.
Dual logs span two Information Manager servers. For example 200 dual logs allows
a log to be created that provides a 200 log configuration spanning two servers.

Desktop Client Software

Desktop Client software components are licensed on a concurrent-user basis. This
means the client software can be installed on as many computers as needed. The
server will control the number of clients that may connect to the server based on the
number of client licenses purchased. For example, Display Client software can be
installed on ten computers event though only two Display Client licenses were
purchased. Only two client computers will be permitted to connect to the server at
any one time.
For Display Client and DataDirect, each open display and/or DataDirect window
occupies a client license, even if the windows are open on the same computer. Thus
one computer may occupy two or more client licenses concurrently.
For Desktop Trends, client licenses are occupied on a per-computer basis. As many
trend displays as needed can be open on a given computer. This would still occupy
just one client license.

Components Supported
The component software packages for Information Management Version 5.0 are:
• Systems Services 5.0.
• History Services 5.0.
• Softpoint Services 5.0.
• Calculations 5.0.
• Application Scheduler 5.0.
• Open Data Access 5.0.
• Data Direct 5.0.
• Desktop Trends 5.0.
• Display Services 5.0.
• Oracle 9.2.0.7.

3BUF001135R5011 9
History Services Section 1 Release Notes

History Services
History Services supports data collection with optional compression (polled, by
exception, user-supplied, or manual), online storage, offline storage, and retrieval.
History Services can collect the following types of data:
• Process data from aspect object properties.
• Manually or programmatically entered lab data.
• Events and messages from the 800xA system Alarm/Event server.
• Finished reports scheduled and executed via the Application Scheduler
• Production data, batch and manufacturing data.

Softpoint Services
Refer to the PLC Connect and SoftPoint Server System Version 5.0 Release Notes
(3BSE036375Rxxxx) for changes and fixes to softpoints.
SoftPoint Services provides for configuration and use of internal process variables
not connected to an external physical process signal. Once configured, the softpoints
may be accessed by other Information Management applications as if they were
actual process points. For example, softpoint values may be stored in property logs
in History Services. Reporting packages such as Crystal Reports may access
softpoints for presentation in reports. Desktop tools such as Desktop Trends and
DataDirect can read from and write to softpoints.
Softpoint alarms can be configured and are directly integrated with system alarms
and events. Engineering unit definitions for softpoints include minimum/maximum
limits and a unit descriptor.
Softpoints is supported as a redundant service on a nonredundant Information
Manager Server pair. The Softpoint Services software may run on any number of
servers within a system.
Data types supported are: Boolean, integer (32bit), single precision floating point
(32 bit) and string. Also, double precision floating point (64 bit) is supported as an
extended data type.

Calculations
Calculations services provides configuration and scheduling of calculations for
aspect objects. Like softpoints, calculations is supported as a redundant service.

10 3BUF001135R5011
Section 1 Release Notes Application Scheduler

Typically calculations are applied to real-time database objects, including both

softpoints and actual process points. Calculations may also be applied to object
types. This allows re-use of the calculation each time a new object is instantiated
from the object type.
Calculations can be triggered by changes to the inputs, or be scheduled to execute
cyclically or at a given date and time. A calculation aspect may be applied to any
aspect object such as a unit, vessel, pump, or softpoint. Inputs can be any aspect
object property, and outputs can be any writable point in the system. Input and
output definitions can be made relative to the object for which the calculation is
defined. Data quality and alarm generation are supported. Calculation logic is
written in VBScript.

Application Scheduler
The Application Scheduler provides for the scheduling and running of jobs for
Industrial IT applications. For example, jobs can be run related to Information
Management applications including archival reports, event-driven data collection,
and consolidation of Production Data Logs (PDLs) and message logs. Jobs can be
scheduled and run at different times and under different conditions as specified
through aspects related to a job definition object.
The Report plug-in for the Application Scheduler is compatible with Crystal
Reports Professional and Developer.

Open Data Access

ODA supports client applications that use either an ODBC or OLE DB data source,
for example: Crystal Reports and Microsoft Excel. Virtual database tables in the
ODA Server map Information Management data types to OLE DB and ODBC data
types. A predefined numericlog table supports access to historical process data.
For real-time data access, configure custom tables that expose specifically those
aspect objects and properties needed for access. These tables are then combined to
form one or more virtual real-time databases. These real-time databases support
read and write access. The custom views make it easier to access real-time data, and
help impose restrictions on data access for certain users. One predefined table
named generic_da also supports real-time data access. This is a read-only table that
exposes all properties for all real-time objects.

3BUF001135R5011 11
Data Direct Section 1 Release Notes

The client application may run locally on the Information Management server
where the ODA Server is installed, or it may run on a remote client computer.
Remote clients require the ODA client software to be installed.

Data Direct
DataDirect is an add-in program for Microsoft Excel that gives access to data from
Information Management applications, ABB OCS applications, as well as Oracle
and OPC data sources. With the proper authority, updating process values and
add/modify entries in lab data logs is possible. DataDirect uses industry-standard
tools and familiar techniques common to other Microsoft Office products.
Specifically, DataDirect supports access to:
• Process, historical, and softpoint data from 800xA system aspect objects.
• Process values from ABB OCS databases.
• Alarm and event messages stored in historical message logs.
• Ad-hoc SQL queries without the use of SQL*NET or ODBC drivers.
• Production Data Logs (PDLs) for TCL, Batch 300, Batch Management, and
Profile Historian applications.

Desktop Trends
Desktop Trends provides real time views for trend, production, and event data on
Information Management display clients using these ActiveX controls. Each of
these display clients includes easy access to the User Tag Management application.
• Trend display - Shows graphical representations of values for up to eight tags.
The Trend Display supports common trend display tools including, zoom,
ruler, filtering, and time offset.
• Ticker - Shows a repeating stream of real time data for selected tags, similar to
a stock market ticker.
• Tag explorer - Provides data for selected tags in tabular format. The
presentation and mode of operation resembles the Windows Explorer.
• PDL browser - Accesses production data from Production Data Logs for Batch
Management, Batch 300, TCL Batches, and Profile Historian.

12 3BUF001135R5011
Section 1 Release Notes Display Services

• Batch to batch display - Combines the functionality of the Trend Display with
the PDL Browser. It allows easy navigation of the PDL structure to find and
display historical trends for different batches.
• Event browser - Retrieves the time stamp, source, and message from OPC and
Audit Trail message logs configured in Information Management - History
Services.
• SQL browser - Runs ad-hoc SQL queries. A query can be saved after it is run.
The query can then be reopened for viewing at some time in the future. Saved
queries can also be deleted.

Display Services
Display Services is used to build and view dynamic runtime displays on desktop
client nodes connected to a Display server. This is an efficient and cost-effective
method for building and distributing process monitoring capability throughout a
plant.
Custom-built displays can be connected to a variety of data sources. For example,
use Display Services to build and run a display for viewing trend data collected by
History Services. Also, use it to connect the same display to a third-party database,
for instance an Oracle database on a remote Information Management node.

Section 2 History Services

Changed Functionality
The following new functionality is introduced in this release of History Services:
• Offline configuration - It is now possible to create all Oracle information, logs,
tables and History flat files with just the History Service running. All PAS
processes can be stopped.
• Two buttons have been added to the Inform IT History Control aspect (Node
Administration Structure/Inform IT History Service Provider/Inform IT
History object). The Check Names button produces a report of the object
names, log names, and object locations in the aspect directory that are different
or not in the Oracle database. The Check Synchronization button produces a
report of all the configuration attributes in all the objects in the aspect directory
that are different or are not in the Oracle database.
• Migration of Enterprise Historian online database to the System Version 5.0
Service Pack 1 800xA systems is supported.A new database view (logattrs) has
been added to provide simplified access to the presentation attributes for the
engineering units, minimums, and maximums. This view can be referenced by
log name or object name. In the past, it would have been necessary to get the
values directly from the controllers using the generic_da view.

Fixed Problems
Fixed problems that are related to History Services are described in Table 1.

Problem Correction or Fix

User interface improvements needed. In the tag (list) view, all items now get an icon.
800xAINM-CN-5010-049 Previously, there was only an icon for actual
tags (one for log config tags, another for trend
tags). The new icons include one for offline and
for info (i.e. no tags exist in this group). This
makes for a cleaner display, and overcomes a
.NET (or WinAPI) shortcoming that prevents the
columns of the list from resizing properly if an
icon is used for one item, and not another.
When searching, a progress bar is now shown
while adding tags to the search results list. The
label is also more descriptive, and updates with
information as the search progresses.
The following dialogs may fail to open when The dialogs now open correctly when running
