“A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE BETWEEN
MODIFIED MDL (DIGITAL) AND MDL (PRINTED) GRADE 11 STUDENTS WITH
THE USE OF INTERNET”
Chapter IV
SUMMARY, FINDINGS, CONCLUSION, AND RECOMMENDATIONS
Summary
This study determined the academic performance difference of grade 11 students of
Toledo City Science High School between Modified Modular Distance Learning (Digital) and
Modular Distance Learning (Printed) with the use of internet. The researchers used descriptive
research method to analyze the data. Data gathering was performed through questionnaires via
google forms. The questionnaire was utilized in order to determine the difference of the
academic performance difference of grade 11 students of Toledo City Science High School
between Modified Modular Distance Learning (Digital) and Modular Distance Learning
(Printed) with the use of internet. The data collected was subjected to certain statistical treatment.
The data were coded, tallied and tabulated for better presentation and interpretation of the results.
Findings
Based on the data gathered, the following findings were presented: (1) There is no
significant difference between MDL (Digital) and MDL (Printed) learning modalities. (2) 98%
of the Grade 11 students owned mobile phones, while 63% owned Laptop/Notebook/Computer
and about 0.01% of the students used Tablet. (3) 33% of the students use Mobile Data as a means
of Internet Connection, 17% of Broadband as a means of Internet Connection, while there are
about 26% used Wireless as a mean and 24% used Cable Modem as a mean. (4) 9.09% of the
students live 0m – 20m away from the cell tower, 9.09% of the students live 20m – 40m away
from the cell tower, 16.67% of the students live 40m – 60m away from the cell tower, 9.09% of
the students live 60m – 80m away from the cell tower, 21.21% students live 80m – 1km away
from the cell tower, and 34.85 students live more than 1km away from the cell tower.
Conclusions
Based on the findings, the researchers concluded the following:
1. Based from the students responds, most of them availed at least one type of gadget and
internet connectivity. The smartphone had the highest percentage from the gadget type,
while mobile data for the internet connection.
2. The average mean of the academic performance of students in MDL (Printed) is 93.70
and 93.27 in MDL (Digital).
3. Based on the study results, the mean GPA of digital and printed learning modalities did
not differ, + (44) = .687, p= .50. This projects null acceptance and alternative rejection.
This means that there is no significant difference between MDL (Digital) and MDL
(Printed) learning modalities.
4. With a total of 66 respondents from grade 11 students. 6 students live 0m – 20m away
from the cell tower. Another 6 students live 20m – 40m away from the cell tower. 11 of
the students live 40m – 60m away from the cell tower. And another 6 students live 60m –
80m away from the cell tower. 14 students live 80m – 1km away from the cell tower.
Lastly, 23 students live more than 1km away from the cell tower.
Recommendations
Specifically, based from analysis and results interpretations, the researchers recommend
the following:
1. Conducting a research on the negative factor that can risk the Academic Performance of
the Student under Modified MDL (Digital) and Modified MDL (Printed).
2. Since the Modified Modular Distance Learning (Digital) has a positive impact, the
researchers recommend continuing to use or further improve the learning modality.
3. Conduct a study covering the whole population of Toledo City Science High School.
4. Study the difference between the MDL (Digital) and MDL (Printed) in terms of their
challenges and advantages.
5. Study the mental health of the students under both MDL (Printed) and MDL (Digital).
