SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN- 10
“Distance Formula”
Prepared by: Kimberly Pindo
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
A. Derive the distance formula
B. Demonstrate the use of distance formula using ordered pairs
C. Apply the distance formula in solving real life-problems
II. SUBJECT MATTER:
A. Topic: Distance Formula
B. Reference: Mathematics learner’s module for Grade 10 from Department of Education
C. Materials: Cartolina, Cartesian plane
III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES
A. Daily Routine Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Checking of the cleanliness and orderliness of the classroom
B. PRIMING
1. Review: Ask the class about the previous lesson, Ask them if they really understand the
lesson.
C. MOTIVATION
1. All students will think of an ordered.
2. Let them plot it on the Cartesian plane (that point will serve as the location of their
house)
3. Ask them how far/how many units away is student A’s house to student B’s house
4. Let them wonder what would be the lesson for that day.
D. Discussion
“DISTANCE FORMULA”
Distance formula- between any two points with coordinates (x1,y1) and (x2, y2)
(d) = √(3 - -2)2 + (9 - 3)2
= √(5)2 + (6)2
= √61
= 7.8102496759067
Units
E. Generalization
The teacher will let the student/s to demonstrate the use of distance formula using ordered pairs.
F. Application
Students will practice to solve distance formula of the following ordered pairs.
1. M(2,-3) and N(10, -3)
2. P(3, --7) and Q(3, 8)
3. C(-4, 3) and D(7, 6)
4. A(2, 3) and (14, 8)
5. X(-3, 9) and Y(2,5)
G. Evaluation
Determine the distance between
1. C(-3,2) AND D(9,7)
2. S(-4,-2) AND T(1,7)
3. K(3, -3) AND L(-3,7)
4. E(7,1) AND F(-6,5)
5. P(4,7) AND S(-6, -1)
H. ASSIGNMENT
Research the following questions: (assignment notebook)
1. What is midpoint of segment
2. What is the formula of midpoint of segments
