Conflict Identification
José Deolito R. Santos' children couldn't afford college. Deolito also wakes up early for his
younger brothers. As his father's profession took off and he had the money to send all his
children to college, his younger siblings' education took priority. Since he cannot afford to take
time off work to attend classes, Deolito will never graduate. Because of this, he needs help filling
out forms. Poverty, family planning neglect, and school underfunding perpetuate this issue.
Poverty makes it hard for parents to provide a proper education, and we don't value family
planning, so it may start the cycle. Poverty perpetuates the cycle. So, the world's population may
be unsustainable. Poverty would rise if these kids couldn't attend school or work. How can the
government fund schools as poverty rises?
Plan of Action
If approved, we'd like to offer a public service or program to teach illiterate employees the
basics of literacy so they can improve their life and gain new skills. We need books, a learning
environment, and volunteers to teach. The steep learning curve makes program completion take
three months to a year. We hope the youngsters can read after the curriculum. Personal growth
would lead to a beneficial consequence.
Reflection
The case taught me that the world isn't fair and that we should all support the poorest
people we can find. I believe the next president will help our nation progress. I hope the
Philippines does well and that we can get out of this mess to make our country and the globe
wonderful.
