CHANCELLOR
The era of accelerating change, we are now witnessing has exposed our world to a greater challenge of
accomplishing more with our time. In an attempt to get more done, we must keep pace with this incessant change
and continue to widen our intellectual horizon by acquiring professional management, technical and research skills.
Therefore, we as the developing nation stand in need of an environment that promotes education and training
required for high-demand careers. I am honored to be the chancellor of Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU),

VICE CHANCELLOR
It is indeed my proud privilege to lead Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU), Islamabad, as Vice Chancellor. STMU was established
with a vision to be a world-class institution for academic excellence geared towards the development of a prosperous society and the
university, in its pursuit of the same, is striving hard to expand the frontiers of knowledge through world-class teaching, scholarship,
research and the lifelong engagement of its students and alumni to contribute to society at large. This University has come a long way
in adding new dimensions to the higher education in the country and is currently running both vertical and horizontal programs in

Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University has contributed significantly to medical, nursing, pharmacy, and Allied Health
Science in the last decade. Recently, Shifa has launched the faculty of Computing with the same vision of building
the nation by equipping professionals with the latest tools and technologies to serve the current demanding needs
of the country. I feel pleasure to welcome all prospective students at the department of computing (DoC).

FACULTY PROFILES
Dr. Afzal received the PhD degree with highest distinction in Computer Science from the Graz University of Technology,
Austria, secured Gold medal in his M.Sc Computer Science from Quiad-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Pakistan. He has
been associated with academia and industry at various levels for the last 20 years, and currently he is serving as
Director and Professor, Department of Computing and Director Campus at one of the largest campus of Shifa Tameer-e-
Millat University at park Road Islamabad. Previously, he has served Namal Institute Mianwali as Director and Professor.
He has served Capital University of Science and Technology, Islamabad as Professor, Associate Professor, and Assistant
Prof. Dr. M. Tanvir Professor of CS. Furthermore, he has served NESCOM, COMSATS University Islamabad, and JinTech Islamabad. He is
Afzal also serving as editor-in-chief for reputed impact factor journal known as: Journal of Universal Computer Science. Dr.
Afzal authored more than 125 research papers including over 50 published papers in impact factor leading journals in the

field of Data Science, Information retrieval and visualization, Semantics, Digital Libraries, Artificial Intelligence and
Scientometrics. He has authored two books and has edited two books in Computer Science. His cumulative impact factor
is 123+, with citations over 1,300. He played pivotal role in making collaborations between MAJU-JUCS, MAJU-IICM, and
TUG-UNIMAS. He served as PhD symposium chair, session chair, finance chair, committee member, and editor of several
IEEE, ACM, Springer, Elsevier international conferences and journals. Dr. Afzal conducted more than 100 curricular, co-
curricular, and extra-curricular activities in the last 5 years including seminars, workshops, national competitions
(ExcITeCup) and invited international and national speakers from Google, Oracle, IICM, IFIS, SEGA Europe etc. Under
his supervision, more than 70 post grad students (MS and PhD) have defended their research theses successfully and a
number of PhD and MS students are pursuing their research with him. He served as Master trainer and a program
director at a national level training for a public sector organization in Pakistan on Human Factors Engineering and
conducted the training of over 150 hours for experts from the industry. He remained master trainer for data science
trainings in leading industrial organizations. He is the recipient of multiple international research fundings.

FACULTY PROFILES
Muhammad Tayyab has been working as Assistant Professor at Department of computing since November 2021. He has ten years of
teaching experience in national and international universities. He has received a Ph.D. degree in computer science from Taylor’s
University, Subang Jaya, Malaysia which is number 1 private university in Asia. His area of specialization in Ph.D. is information security,
security of Deep Learning algorithms, and Machine Learning algorithms. He has received MS degree in Information security with majors
in information security, big data, and cloud computing from COMSATS University Islamabad campus, Pakistan, and a Bachelor of
Computer Engineering (BCE) from Bahira University Islamabad. He has research publications in well-reputed journals and conferences.
Dr. Tayyab has been associated with education for last 10 years and had participated more than 10 FYPs for BS students. He has been
Dr. Muhammad Tayyab associated with UMT Sialkot for 2 years as lecturer and 3 years with COMSATS Islamabad as a research associate under the
supervision of Dr. Abid khan and Dr. Mansoor Ali. Beside teaching, he is active researcher and have published 6 impact journal paper
Assistant Professor with commutative IF= 11.25 in couple of years. He has authored three book chapters, and more than 6 papers in IEEE and ACM
conferences. During his PhD research, Dr. Tayyab has been associated with 4 industrial workshops and member of trainings like
Hadoop, Kafka, and RapidMiner, related to data analytics. Moreover, he has also worked as junior lecturer at Taylor’s University
Malaysia where main responsibility was to take undergraduate classes, tutorials, and labs.

Dr. Majid Mumtaz working as Assistant Professor at Department of Computing, Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU) Islamabad. He
has received Ph.D. degree in Software Engineering from Tsinghua University (which is QS world ranked 14 institute and number 1
Engineering University in Asia pacific) during which he remained a very active member of information security and cyber security field
specifically did research in Public Key Cryptanalysis, Cryptography and Information and Communication systems security. Overall, he
has published six impact factor papers in journals of international repute with cumulative impact factor 12+. Besides journal he also
published more than five publications in international reputed conferences. His research area includes but not limited to information and
communication systems security, IoT Security, Public key Cryptography, and public key cryptanalysis. He has supervised/co-supervised
Dr. Majid Mumtaz many R&D projects of BSCS/BSSE/MCS graduates. He is reviewer of several prestigious journals and conferences. Besides teaching
and research activities, he is also remained active in handling the administrative tasks and completed them as well with success.

Sidra Aslam is an Assistant Professor at the Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Islamabad, where her research focuses on
Information Security, Privacy, Cryptography, Supply Chain, Blockchain Technology, Semantic Web, Restful Web Services,
Web of Things, and Distributed Architecture. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Primorska,
Slovenia in June 2022. She published research papers in scholarly journals and conference proceedings. She worked 3 years
as an assistant researcher at the international company InnoRenew CoE, Izola, Slovenia, where she was involved in different
European industrial projects. She worked as a teaching assistant and taught a master course at the University of Primorska,
Koper, Slovenia. In 2021, she was awarded grant for Short Term Scientific Mission (STSM) and worked with the European

Ambreen Nazir is a senior lecturer in the Department of Computing at the Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU), Islamabad.
Currently, she is also enrolled as a doctoral candidate at the University of Xi’an Jiaotong University, China. Her areas of
specialization during her Ph.D. is Natural Language Processing, Deep Learning, and Machine Learning. She has received an MS
degree in Software Engineering with majors in Data Mining and rule-based learning from UET Taxila, Pakistan. She has more
than five years of academic experience in a well-reputed university. So far, she has published many research articles in
different renowned conferences and journals such as IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing, IEEE Transactions on
Knowledge and Data Engineering, Elsevier Information Sciences, Chinese Journal of Electronics, ACM SIGIR, ACL, IJCAI, and

EMNLP. She is also an active reviewer of many artificial intelligence platforms.

Ghulam Mustafa currently doing his PhD in Computer Science from University of Engineering and Technology, Taxila, Pakistan.
He has received his MS in Computer Science degree with distinction from Capital University of Science and Technology,
Islamabad, secured Gold medal due to his excellent academic performance in his entire degree duration. Moreover, in his BS in
Software Engineering degree COMSATS, Abbottabad has awarded two Gold Medals on his 1st position in Abbottabad campus,
as well as got 1st position in all seven campuses of CUI in 2017. He has been associated with academia, and industry for the last
6 years, and currently he is serving as Senior Lecturer in Faculty of Computing at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, park Road
Islamabad. Previously, he has served 5 years in CS department of Capital University of Science and technology, Islamabad as

Associate and Junior Lecturer. Furthermore, he has served A&F Solution Software House as a web frontend designer and

backend developer. Moreover, with academia he is also an active freelancer from the last 4 years, doing projects in different
languages such as, python, java, C++ etc.

Mr. Saad Ilyas is a senior lecturer at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University, Islamabad. He completed the MS degree in Data Science
from the University of Malaya Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2019, he did his BS in Computer Science from COMSATS Islamabad.
He got his schooling from Roots school System. He has research interests in data science and Machine Learning. He has
supervised numerous FYP projects. He also worked as a lecturer at Capital University of Science & Technology, Islamabad and
University of Central Punjab, Lahore. Before joining academia, he worked as a developer at Android Developer Triple I
International, Islamabad.

Mr. Amer Zaheeer working as Senior Lecturer at Shifa Tameer-e-Millat University (STMU), Islamabad, Pakistan. Before this, he
remained attached as faculty member in Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST), Islamabad, Army Public College
of Management and Sciences (APCOMS), Rawalpindi, Pakistan and National University of Modern Languages (NUML),
Islamabad, Pakistan. During my career in industry, he was engaged as a team lead in project of “Design and Development of
Hybrid IPv4 and IPv6 Network for QoS Enabled Video Streaming Multicast Application” which was funded by ICT R&D,
ministry of IT, Govt of Pakistan. His research interests are strongly relevant to Cyber Security, Network Security, Computer
Networks, Multimedia Streaming and I am especially interested to pursue future research in Security Issues in IoTs, Software-

Engr. Muhammad Haris Farooq (Member, PEC) was born in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He received the B.S. degree from the
Muhammad Ali Jinnah University Islamabad, Pakistan, in 2014, and the M.S. degree from Capital University of Science &
Technology, in 2019. He was a Site Engineer at Islamabad Electric Supply Company, Pakistan, until 2022. His research interests
include Robotics, Artificial intelligence, Smart Grid, Renewable Energy resources, Wireless communication protocols, Embedded
system design, and automation. Apart from his formal job, he trains and conducts workshops for students on Robotics. He has
also experience of earning online from Freelancing projects on different online platforms. Engr. Haris is a registered engineer at
Pakistan Engineering Council and a member of IEEE.

Sana Ullah has received a MS(CS) degree in computer science from Capital University of Science and Technology (CUST),
Pakistan. His area of specialization is Network Security. He has received BS degree in Computer Science from COMSATS
University Islamabad campus, Pakistan. Currently, he is working as a lecturer at department of computing, Shifa Tameer-e-
Millat University, Islamabad.He has more than three years of experience in a well-reputed university from 2019 till now. His area
of interest includes network security, wireless networks, and Cryptography. He has worked as Junior Lecturer in Capital
University of Science and Technology for more then 3 years. He has also worked as Network Support in a private ISP called
Wi-Tribe for more than 1 year.

FACULTY PROFILES
Muhammad Saqib completed the MS in Computer Science from the Capital University of Science and Technology, Islamabad, in
2020. He started his career in 2015 with a multinational company Netsolace where he worked for 3 years as Network Engineer
and Lead Network support team. Saqib joined academia in 2018. His research interests are in Scientometrics. He has supervised
numerous BS Final Year projects.

Mr. Muhammad Abdullah Khan completed his BS degree in Computer Science from Capital University of Science and
Technology Islamabad, in 2021, and joined academia where he worked as a Lab-Instructor, currently he is working at STMU as
an instructor. He has 1+ year of industrial experience in Backend Development, WordPress, Mobile apps, and S.E.O.

- DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTING
Department of Computing at the faculty of Computing offers
industry-oriented postgraduate and undergraduate programs. At the
postgraduate level, Ph.D. Computer Science and MS data science
programs are being offered. Ph.D. computer science prepares
graduates for pursuing research and development careers in
contemporary computing fields. MS Data Science program is
exclusively designed based on industry input and prepares
graduates for practical as well as research tasks related to data
science.

Department also offers the following undergraduate programs: BS in


Computer Science, BS in Artificial Intelligence, BS in Cyber Security,
and BS in Software Engineering. These programs are aligned with
the latest curriculum developed by HEC and the industry.
Department has a strong liaison with the industry and prepares
students on state-of-the-art tools and technologies.

Furthermore, the department regularly organizes workshops,


trainings, and seminars on curricular and co-curricular activities. The
faculty of the department offers executive trainings to industrial
organizations on innovative technologies and aims at solving real
problems.

The department of computing aims at imparting state-
of-the-art knowledge and skills aligned with industrial
demands to produce computing professionals capable of
securing technical, management, and research roles in
national and international academia and industry.

Computing Laboratories
Department of Computing (DOC) has spacious, well-furnished, and air-conditioned laboratories equipped with the latest computing
machines having high-speed internet facilities. Computing labs offer services for core computing areas, e.g. fundamentals,
programming, database, algorithms, machine learning, artificial intelligence, etc. Lab assists students in the provision of state-of-the-art
software like MATLAB, PYTHON Frameworks, Graphics software, Visual Studio Tools for Software, and Web Applications.

Digital Logic Design (DLD) lab contains specialized hardware in the domain of digital system design. Lab equipped with microcontroller
kits, microprocessor kits, logic design trainers, and FPGA KITS. Lab offers in areas of logic design, microprocessors, computer
architecture, and digital design.

Department of Computing (DOC) also has a final year project (FYP) lab for students to fulfil their research and development needs.

STUDENT Student Affairs Office at Park Road Campus (PRC) is a friendly place to start for questions you may have, about any curricular
and/or extra- curricular activity / issue. The Office serves as a liaison between students, faculty and administration. The core

are made to ensure a student's life, is free from worries and distractions, to help them learn to manage affairs on their own, to cope with strains and stresses
which are part of the growth processes, and to focus on their prime responsibility. The Student Engagement Office functions as a friend and guide of a student; it
administers his needs from the time he steps into the College for admission, till his graduation. The Student Engagement Office provides proactive support and
capacity-building services to promote co-curricular activities in the College which could enrich our graduates at every stage of their life as well as build strong
relationships with their peers, faculty, administration, and other stakeholders.
The Student Engagement Office is responsible for performing the following functions:

Receiving Student applications on academic as well as non-academic issues

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND MERIT
AWARD PROGRAMS

Financial Assistance:

1. A committee constituted by the Syndicate for the purpose of Financial Assistance shall select students for the scholarships and other
funds on the basis of their applications on the prescribed form.
2. For the purpose of fund collection, a form will be circulated to all the members of STMU/Shifa Family and collected before the 30th of
September each year (contribution to be added to separate endowment fund).
3. A student would be eligible for only one financial award, in one category, at any time (the prize award is not included in this category).
4. A 20% discount will be granted on the tuition fee for the second and onward siblings.
5. A 20% discount will be granted on the tuition fee for the children of the current full-time employees of the University and its teaching
hospital (Shifa International Hospitals Ltd).
6. A 25% waiver will be granted on the tuition fee for a student whose father/legal guardian has died during the course of study of the
program in which the student is enrolled at that time.
7. In some special cases committee will be authorized to decide and grant financial aid.

SCOPE / NEED OF THE PROGRAM
The most important aspect of computer science is problem-solving, an essential skill for true creativity and
innovativeness. BS (CS) students at STMU study the design, development, and analysis of effective solutions to solve
problems in a variety of business, scientific and social contexts. BS computer science graduates can find employment
in numerous different industries such as IT, banking, finance, telecom, manufacturing, and much more.

According to the Association of Computing Machinery: "Computing jobs are among the highest paid and have the
highest job satisfaction. Computing is very often associated with innovation, and developments in computing tend to

disciplines of information technology have become one of the top career choices. According to the information, the
number of applications for software engineering has increased thrice over the previous year. As the field expands, so
does the number of professional opportunities. Software engineers are in high demand all over the world due to the
huge need for new software and mobile applications. Every year, the software engineering field in Pakistan grows at a
pace of 35 percent. In the worldwide market, the Pakistani software sector accounts for USD 2.8 million. Software
Engineering is a sector that has had a surge in demand over the previous decade, so students can choose it as a career
with confidence and peace of mind.

Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) are playing an essential

set a massive demand for professional competency in the field of Cyber Security.
The importance of having a strong foundation of the core principles of Cyber
Security is very much apparent and self-evident. There is a desperate need to
learn the core skills in the area like the foundation of Cyber Security, the

The primary objectives of BS (CySec) program are as follows:


The BS (CySec) program intends to produce skillful professionals that can understand the processes which impact cyber
security, safeguarding information assets, collection and preservation of digital evidence, analysis of data, and identification
and fixing of security vulnerabilities.
Build diverse careers in Cyber Security domain such as work as an ethical hacker, penetration tester, IT security professional,
security engineer, secure application developer, security analyst, etc. for the socio-economic development of the country.
Develop effective communication, management, and leadership skills and emphases towards entrepreneurship.

SCOPE / NEED OF THE PROGRAM
The novelty in Information and Communication Technology is redefining the dimension of socio-economic development
in the country, resulting in commercial, economic, cultural, and social opportunities for users of Cyberspace. The need
for cyber security specialists has been demanding in the modern era while solving many data-driven problems and
providing security solutions. The way in which one can imagine that exposes information assets via a single host or a
cloud environment over the internet creates new challenges in today’s global world, which emerge cyber security field
that could be exploited by hackers. Cyber security experts are the need of organizations that will protect their digital
assets and organizations from insider and external attacks. The BS (CySec) program at STMU will produce graduates by

SCOPE / NEED OF THE PROGRAM
The computer science domain leads to a wide range of careers. These careers require fundamental computer science
skills. One of the primary goals of the Associate of Science in Computer Science is to prepare graduates for such
Computer Science knowledge which they could apply directly in real situations or could be able to build new knowledge
on the learned knowledge. This program includes analysis, design, implementation, and application of what can be
automated. It arises due to the huge information revolution, which made it so difficult to live without computers. The
program focuses on programming skills in various paradigms, such as operating systems, networking, and databases.
In this program, students will get practical exposure to different software systems and languages such as C, C++, JAVA,
Visual Programming languages, Unix, Windows, and network tools. The primary goal of this program is to provide
graduates having strong information technology knowledge that will allow them to increase career opportunities in the
Computer Science domain. This short degree provides highly sought-after skills, which increases the chances of getting
