With all due respect and reverence to the All Mighty Father for allowing us to virtually gather today,

good morning everyone.

To begin with, let me acknowledge the presence of Engr. Dianne Lea Damian, to all the newly elected
officials of Geodetic Engineering Student Society who make this event a possible one, congratulations
and to all the Bachelors of Science in Geodetic Engineering Freshmen Students, welcome to the program
and lastly, to the rest of the participants,

I was called to bring some inspiring statements that may hopefully help uplift some of you amidst all the
different adversities everyone struggles about, may I bring some light to you.

Let me tell you a story, In 2016, I took a leap of faith to leave and study away from home, armored with
my dreams to be someone someday and my faith that He will carry me through, I put my heart and mind
in the best of my ability to finish the race. To tell you, I was not the most brilliant student in the class but
I may say I could be one of those persevered and diligent ones. Perhaps some of you are wondering,
then how did I able to pass the board exam and bagged the elusive place, I tell you it was a product of
early mornings, endless reading and solving from different materials and most espsecially incessant
petitions and prayers to God Almighty.

To give you a glimpse of our journey in taking the board exam, October of last year, despite the
travel restrictions we went to Cebu and were disappointed to learn that we would not be able to sit
for the exam due to the increasing cases brought by the global pandemic. To further damage our
battered hopes, two of our fellow aspirants, who are now proud engineers, tested positive of the
virus, necessitating quarantine before they could return home. Then, after more than a month of
delay, we hoped for the best for the December board exam. However, days before the exam a
typhoon swept the city. As risk takers, my tenacious fellow aspirants went to Cebu and were
welcomed by the remnants of the typhoon and they had to personally confirm the PRC Cebu the
postponement of our exam as lines of communication were down, while my other fellow aspirant
and I tried to confirm here in PRC Dumaguete its postponement. That is how determined and
persistent we were to achieve the elusive license. That against all odds, we were courageous
enough to survive all the adversities.

Thus, these 4 words aspire me to live by and helped me to overcome anxiety in the most awaited
days: “Don’t fear. Only believe.” For more than a year of anticipation for the board exam, those
random questions, unpredictable scenarios and expected difficulties, I knew I would never be
confident with all my learnings. Nevertheless, it gave me peace to remain still amidst the
tribulations by surrendering to Him all the worries, and believing that He delivered us this far and
He would carry us through.

Thus, a message to all the aspiring engineers: Take this in your hearts, which our instructor once said
during our class, that in Engineering and I believe generally in whatever program you may in, it is not all
and only about who is the smartest one, it is more about the perseverance, commitment and passion
embodied on a person that will bring him or her to the finish line. Hence, I am always being reminded to
always go beyond what is required for. To all the students, especially to freshmen students, to maintain
your status, it is a must to know how and what to study. Mainly, bring your focus to your goals in lives.
As it is said on today’s theme “Let Your Dream Transcend You to Your Purpose”. Take it as a
privilege that you are a student of this program and a member of the GESS. Nonetheless, enjoy the ride,
the ups and downs of your journey. You will remember them someday of how you courageously show
up and overcome each challenges. Instill in your hearts that If I was able to do so, then you can and you
will too.

Moreover, may I commend all the officials of the GESS, I am truly amazed to people who shoulder the
responsibility of leading the whole body. May you able to bring programs and activities that will cultivate
the welfare of your members and extend them to the community.

Lastly, let me share the comfort words that may accompany you to your distressing moments written by
Max Ehrmann, my favorite poem, The Desideratas “‘Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with
yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at
peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the
noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still
a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.”

Thank you.
