4.3 Service-Load Design Examples 115 (4.5a) and (4.5b) ‘The required eccentricity value at the critical section, such as the support for an ideal beam section having properties close to those required by Equations 4.5a and b, is, e = (i - fi) x (45c) A graphical representation of section moduli of nominal sections is shown in Figure 4.5. It may be used as a speedy tool for the choice of initial trial sections in the design process. Table 4.1 gives the section moduli of standard PCI rectangular sections, Tables 4.2 and 4.3 give the geometrical outer dimensions of standard PCI T-sections and AASHTO I-sections, respectively, as well as the top-section moduli of those sections needed in the preliminary choice of the section in the service-load analysis. Table 4.4(a) gives dimen- sional details of the actual “as-built” geometry of the standard PCI and AASHTO sec- tions, and Table 4.4(b) gives girder properties of optimized sections used in different states. Properties of bulb sections are given in Appendix C. Additional details are pre- sented in Refs. 4.9 and 4.12. 4,3 SERVICE-LOAD DESIGN EXAMPLES 4.3.1 Variable Tendon Eccentricity Example 4.1 Design a simply supported pretensioned double-T-beam for a parking garage with harped tendon and with a span of 60 ft (18.3 m) using the ACI 318 Building Code allowable stresses. ‘The beam has to carry a superimposed sustained service live load of 1,100 plf (16.1 KN/m) and superimposed dead load of 100 pif (1.5 kN/m), and has no concrete topping, Assume the beam is made of normal-weight concrete with {= 5,000 psi (34.5 MPa) and that the concrete strength f', at transfer is 75 percent of the cylinder strength. Assume also that the time- dependent losses of the initial prestress are 18 percent of the initial prestress, and that Jz 270.00 ps (1.862 MPa) for stressrelieved tendons, = 12! Table 4.1. Then the self-weight moment is given by _ wl _ 1,000(60)" 8 8 and the superimposed load moment is (1,100 + 100) (60)? 8 Since the tendon is harped, the critical section is close to the midspan, where dead-load and superimposed dead-load moments reach theit maximum. The critical section is in many cases taken at 0.40 L from the support, where L is the beam span. The value 0.40L is used to indi- cate that under moving load, the critical section can be at 0.40L and not necessarily at midspan, From Equations 4.4a and b, X 12 = 5,400,000 in-Ib (610 KN-m) Msp + M, = X 12 = 6,480,000 in.-Ib (732 KN-m) slur cho = ur | Za prez = UH 620 GSO 9G'LT_LOS'ZT «BZ STE = BUB'EOP SIT arsn 9660 9150 SoR'ST ZIT BET ZTOE SOLE ZO ves sexo. 1660 SHS BBCI GGT.
