Why did they choose this celebration?
We chose this celebration because it is the month in which families get together and
share, these Christmas festivities celebrate the birth of Jesus.
As such Christmas in our families we began to celebrate it from the 7th of candles
Why are candles lit on December 7?
since the year 1854 when the date of the Immaculate Conception was declared, parishioners
around the world gathered to light torches and lights to celebrate the news and pay tribute to the
Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus, and since then the tradition. Over the years, the tradition has
become for many something more fraternal and familiar than religious, since they consider it a
time to officially receive Christmas and share it with their loved ones. There are even those who
light the candles in honor of their relatives and close deceased. On the other hand, there are also
families that keep the custom of lighting a candle of a different color for each of the wishes and
requests that they keep for the new year. In most towns and cities it is customary to decorate the
streets with candles, lanterns and lights starting at 7:00 pm on the night of December 7
Why are the novenas celebrated?
The origin of this tradition occurred in 1743, when the priest Fernando de Jesús Larrea decided
to write a unique text for the end of the year. The original book contained 52 pages. Currently,
some prayers are repeated during the 9 days, however, daily considerations change depending on
the day. It is prayed for 9 days from December 16 to 24, recalling the months prior to the birth of
Jesus and ending with his arrival in the manger in Bethlehem. In addition to the Catholic
tradition, believers take the opportunity to meet with their loved ones and share different typical
Christmas appetizers such as fritters, custard, empanadas, tamales, suckling pig dishes, cookies,
among others.
Why is Christmas celebrated on the 24th?
On December 24, Christmas Eve is celebrated around the world, a Christian holiday that
commemorates the eve that Jesus was born. An interesting fact tonight is the exchange of gifts
after midnight, as a symbolic representation of the delivery of gifts by the Magi to little Jesus.
The first origins of this festivity go back to Egypt. However, the exact time varies in each
country and culture. In Latin America, for example, it is customary to have dinner on the night of
December 24, to wait until midnight and say "Merry Christmas."

My family on the 7th of candles first of all we bought everything very early, like the candles we
prepare custard, eat cookies and drink wine. Something very common in our family is to have a
candle just for you, with this you ask for your wishes and what do you hope to have for the next
year, when 7 pm arrived together we began to light the candles.
We don't celebrate the novenas, but on December 24 we get together as a family, my mom likes
to make tamales so from 23 she buys everything and leaves some things ready. Already early on
the 24th with my mother we start to prepare the tamales, custard and get the cookies and wine
ready. At night we put on the clothes that we are going to wear for the first time and we all go
out together to look at the lights, we wait for midnight to arrive to distribute the food and wish
each other a Merry Christmas. This is one of the times that I like the most because it is there
where the whole family gathers and we share.

On the night of the seventh day of candles we celebrate this tradition at night with
candles, food, games throughout the night, friends and family, we place our candles to make a
Christmas wish.

I The seven of candles sometimes I have to work and other times I spend that day with
my dad since mom is traveling, when I'm with my dad I go to my sister's family and there we
light candles and go for a walk to see the lights and then we get together as a family and have a
barbecue and we stay to sleep there.
In my family we don't do novenas. On December 24 sometimes I spend it with my mom
or I spend it with my dad when I spend it with my mom I go traveling with her My stepfather
and my stepsister or when I spend it with my Dad, I'm going to my dad's family, we open
presents, we read the novena, and then from there we go to my sister's house and we finish
celebrating Christmas all together and we open the presents and then we have dinner and say
Merry Christmas to each other.
