TEX5-3 explains the creative process of design used in the work of textile designers
TEX5-7 evaluates the impact of textiles production and use on the individual consumer and society

TASK BACKGROUND
As part of the unit “Thrift Shift”, you will learn about how textile items can be redesigned and upcycled. The fast fashion
industry has had detrimental impacts on our environment with the textiles industry being the second largest contributor
to the pollution, next to oil. As textile designers we need to learn to work sustainably. Part of this process requires
designers to learn how to work with existing textile items and transform them.

TASK REQUIREMENTS
The Green Hub is one of Australia’s most popular resources for promoting how to live more sustainably. It reaches tens
of thousands of women to share brands, tips, and guides to help empower them to make lifestyle choices that are kinder
to people and the planet. The founder Kira! Environmentalist – Educator – Content Creator – Sustainable Living Advocate
wishes to extend the hub to share stories about sustainable textile and fashion designers and to encourage design
practices that promote slow fashion and slow production.

Create a mock blog post suitable for The Green Hub. The post must introduce readers to a fashion or textile designer
whose core business is sustainable and ethical design. The preference is for an Australian designer.
In the post:
● Identify the designer using visuals and text
● Describe the nature of their work emphasising the sustainable or ethical practices used
● Explain the effect of the designers' creative, sustainable processes and practices
● Evaluate how the designers' practices and products impact individual consumers and society in general.
● Justify the sustainable and ethical approach to sourcing, manufacturing and designing clothes and the move
from fast and disposable to slow and informed practices.

Complete your mock blog post as a Google doc, canva document or as part of a google site. Regardless of the basis for
the mock blog, the research must be structured as a blog and written as a narrative. Your blog must be informative,
engaging to read and use a variety of media to support your documentation. Include a bibliography to reference your
source material.

Blog formatting tips
