Research on goiter specifically the proposition that a genetic factor contributed to
endemic goiter and that the main cause of goiter is iodine intake deficiency. He suggested
as treatment the injection of iodized oil. All won first prizes in Research Award.

BENITO LUMEN
Benito Lumen is known as Father of Lunasin. His mother Soledad instructed him to be his own
boss, but no one instructed him to discovered lunasin, a peptide found in the seeds of common
crops that has an uncommon function: prevent cancer. His lunasin technology will manage to
save billions of lives from cancer would be exciting news. He demonstrate the cancer-preventive
efficacy of diet-administered lunasin in soy protein against breast, prostate, colon and cervical
cancer."

DIOSDADO BANATAO
Banatao is known for his rag to riches story. He is a
Filipino entrepreneur and engineer working in the high-
tech industry, credited with having developed the first
10-Mbit Ethernet CMOS with silicon coupler data-link
control and transceiver chip, the first system logic chip
set for IBM's PC-XT and the PC-AT, and the local bus
concept and the first Windows Graphics accelerator
chip for personal computers. A three-time start-up
veteran, he co-founded Mostron, Chips and
Technologies, and S3 Graphics.

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
He pioneered the PC chip set and graphics acceleration architecture that continue to be
two of the foundational technologies in all personal computers.
He has also been a venture partner at the Mayfield Fund.
He works as design engineer in Boeing for the company’s new commercial airliner and
cargo transport aircraft, Boeing 747, in the United States.
He works on National Semiconductor, Intersil, and Commodore International where he
designed the first single chip, 16-bit microprocessor-based calculator.
