Sub: Promotions to Group 'B' posts on Indian Railways Centralized Computer

Based Test (CBT) against 70 % quota for the vacancy cycle 2023-24 Main exam on
19.02.2023 and supplementary Exam on 05.03.2023- - Intimation of result

Ref: (1) Railway Board's letter No. E(GP)2022/2/4 dated 18.01.2023

(2) NAIR letters of even number dated 31.01.23, 06.02.23 and 24.02.23

1. Main Exam of Centralised CBT for Gr.B selection against 70% quota for the vacancy
cycle from 01.01.2023 to 31.12.2024 was held on 19.02.2023 in 14 cities across 19
centres. Supplementary Examination for the eligible absentees was held on
05.03.2023 in one centre at Nagpur. Staff of 25 Zonal Railways and PUs participated
in the CBT. The list of posts for which CBT was held for each Railway/PU is attached
as Annexure-A.

2. Question paper pattern for the examination was as follows:

For AFA There were 110 questions (including 10 optional questions on

official language policy and rules) each carrying one mark and the candidate
was required to answer any 100 questions.

For posts of AOM, ACM, APO, AEE, AEN, AME, AMM and ASTE -
There were 110 questions each carrying one mark out of which 100 questions
were to be answered. There were two sections as per following distribution:

Part-A: Professional Subject including 10 optional questions on

official
language policy and rules -80 questions (To answer any 70)

Part-B: Establishment and Financial rules -30 questions (To answer 30)

Each question carried 01 mark. There was provision of negative marking and
one-third mark was deducted for each wrong answer.

3. Question paper was in 02 languages (Hindi and English). The candidates could view
the question paper in both the
languages and answer the questions.
4. Objection tracker was live from evening of 07.03.23 to 17.00 hrs of 10.03.23 (three
days) in NAIR website to enable the candidates to raise objections on questions
answer keys. The objections received were thoroughly examined and appropriate
decision was taken with regards to modification of answer keys of some questions and
omission of incorrect questions. Thereafter the final processing of the result was done
with the revised answer keys and after deletion of the incorrect questions.

5. Treatment of deleted questions: Incorrect questions have been omitted (deleted)

from evaluation as per the guidelines contained in Board's letter no. E(GP)2022/2/4
dated 26.10.2022 (RBE no. 134/2022) and 28.11.2022. Since the current CBT had
optional questions, the procedure has been adopted only for those candidates who
have attempted the deleted questions. For ease of understanding, the procedure
adopted is explained with the following illustrations:

i. This procedure will arise only if the deleted question has been attempted by
the candidate. If the candidate has answered either all 100 or less than 100
questions, but the deleted question is not one of the attempted questions,
there is not any impact for him/her and his/her final score has been
determined out of 100.
1 If the candidate has attempted 100 questions and two of these have been
subsequently omitted /deleted, he has been evaluated out of 98, and finally
re-calculated out of 100.
iii. If the candidate has attempted, say 90 questions and two of these have been
subsequently omitted/deleted, he has been evaluated out of 98, and finally re-
calculated out of 100.

6. All the original documents in connection with the CBT held on 19.02.2023 and
05.03.2023 are available with the Zonal Railways/PUs. They are requested to
sCrutinise the specific adverse reports against some candidates and take appropriate
decision about cancellation of their candidature in accordance with the instructions
mentioned in the call letter.

7. The Railway/PU - wise and post-wise results of the examination are sent herewith
(emailed directly to the Dy.CPO/Gaz or Dy.CAO/G) in Excel file (containing full
particulars and scoring details of the candidates) and digitally signed PDF (with only
scoring details) for further necessary action. Some candidates were allowed to appear
in Main/Supplementary exam on provisional basis based on directions of court etc.
Hence eligibility of the candidates is to be properly examined before publishing the
written result.

8. Respective Zonal Railways and PUs should directly deal with RTI applications and
court cases, if any, arising out of the CBT.
