Content Standards: The learner demonstrates understanding of media and


information literacy and related concepts
Performance The learner organizes a creative and interactive symposium
Standards: for the community focusing on being a media and
information literate individual.
Learning Classifies contents of different media types
Competencies: (MIL11/12TYM-IIId-10)

I – Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the learners will be able to:


1. Discuss the three basic types of media.
2. Identify the major types of each media and its characteristics.
3. Classify contents of different media types
4. Establish/construct own guidelines on the usage of any type of
media

II – Subject Matter
A. Topic: THE VARIOUS MEDIA IN THE AGE OF INFORMATION
B. Materials: Media and Information Literacy Hand-out (PDF), Laptop, Visual
Aids, Marker, Manila Paper, Television.
C. Reference: Media and Information Literacy by Edward G. Gonzales
Self – Learning Module

III. Developmental Activities/Procedures

A. Routine Activities
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
B. Motivation
The students are asked to work with their groups and let them share the
different media types wherein they are familiar with. And let students
share such media types to the whole class. (Publishes all possible
answers shared by students)

C. Lesson Proper
The teacher discusses the following:
1. The three basic types of media
2. The major types of each media and its
characteristics
3. The contents of each media

D. Activity
Ask the students to look for a partner for an interactive game “Deal or No Deal”
The following are the instruction:
1. There are 25 brief cases to choose.
2. Each briefcase contains a question and a correct answer.
3. Deal means the teacher will open the box and the player will answer the
question with corresponding points that will be drawn through spinning the
wheel.
4. Wrong answer for the briefcase chosen will mean zero (0) point.
5. Each pair has three (3) chances of saying NO DEAL or ND! No Deal means
no point.
6. The playing pair will be disqualified if someone will coach the player or
student who is answering the question.

E. Abstraction/generalization

The teacher asks the following questions:


A. How would you identify the types of media based on its contents?
B. Do they have the same format or ways in presenting the data?
C. What do you think are the roles of media in today’s society?

F. Application

Ask the students to work with group and instruct them to establish or construct
their own guidelines (at least three) on the usage of the type of media. The
students will pick the type of media they are going to work on. Ask them to
present it in the class.

Rubrics to be used is attached.

V. Assignment

Compose a message to the President of the Philippines regarding the current


status of media in the country. Be creative in your message. You can do it in different
formats such as letter, poem, song, drawing/painting/poster or dance.
