4. Procedure:

4.1 Introductory
Activity (2 min).

Say: What do you feel if your head is dirty and your hair is tangled?
What do you do if your head is itchy?

• Show a picture of a girl suffering from too much itchiness due


to lice. Have the pupils say something about the girl in the picture.

• Ask: Have you experienced the same as this? What did you do
toremedy it?
Group work: Ask the pupils to read the story written in an activity
card, “My Super Itchy Head”

4.2 Activity/Strategy My Super Itchy Head!


(8 min). Elsa at Yara are bestfriends. Elsa has a clean body because her
mother taught her about personal hygiene. Yara has plenty of lice
because she was infested through her sister’s hair. Due to lack of
personal hygiene Yara’s condition got worst. She doesn’t comb her
hair every day. She used to play under the heat of the sun making
her perpired a lot. Yara told Elsa that her head is so itchy that is why
she borrowed Elsa’s comb. Elsa just let Yara borrowed her comb.
The next morning, Elsa felt that her head is itchy too. Elsa
frequently scratched it almost every day. She got worried of what is
happening to her that is why she told her Mom. They went to a
doctor for checkup, there they found out that it was all because of
lice.

Let the pupils answer the following questions:

1. Describe Elsa.
2. How did Elsa get the lice from Yara?
3. Why did Yara’s situation get worst?
4. What should be done to remove Yara and Elsa’s lice?
5. In your own opinion, do we need to be ashamed of having lice in
our heads? Why?

Discuss the lesson using the following guide questions.


How do lice multiply?
How will it be treated?

Pediculosis is a parasitic infection specifically with lice.


Lice are parasites. They can affect the health of the person, the host
they are in. Medical attention should be given to treat lice
accordingly. Never use someone else’s comb, headband or cap and
always take a bath, shampoo your hair and then comb it regularly.
