and Al-Nas
2. Theme: Allah’s and His Creations
1
6. Surah Fatiha (1:1-7)
Ans a)
Name of Passage: Surah Fatiha
Theme: Allah’s Relation with the Created World
Specification: Allah is our Sustainer, God, Protector, Guide, and Judge.
Main Teachings:
1. This passage has 37 different names. One of them is Surat-ul-Dua. This is because it is a supplication
and it teaches us the method of supplication:
a) Praising Allah (1-4)
b) Submission and expressing humility (5)
c) The Invocation. (6-7)
For Dua, first, we need to praise Allah followed by reciting Durood. Then we need to express our
humility. After this, we say our supplications and conclude with the praises of Allah and His Messenger.
2. This passage by mentioning attributes of Allah and His several relations with us teaches the reasons for
praying before Him and supplicating to Him. We supplicate to Allah because:
a) He is our Sustainer; He nurtures us physically with food and He also nurtures us spiritually by providing
guidance.
b) He is our God; He is the one we submit to and the one we praise and worship alone because only He
deserves our praises and worship. The Quran states: “Allah is free of all wants and worthy of all
praises.” (31:26) Al-Luqman
c) He is our protector; He protects us from external types of evils which include the evil of darkness, the
evil of magicians, and the evil of the envious. He also protects us from internal types of evils which
include the evil of the whisperer. The Quran states: “Say I seek refuge with the Lord of mankind … from
the mischief of the whisperer” (114:1) & (114:4)
d) He is our Guide; He guides us for our inner education and consolation to attain Piety and
righteousness. He guides only those who pray and ask for it.
e) He is our Judge; He will judge us on the Day of Judgment based on His guidance to us and our response
to it in form of beliefs and actions. It teaches Allah’s decision will be ultimate. The Quran states: “No one
can intercede in His presence except as He permits” (2:255) Al- Baqarah
f) We also supplicate to Him to be consistent on the path of righteousness and to be grateful for His
guidance.
3. This passage mentions the Mercy of Allah to teach us that we can turn to Allah to seek His help,
guidance, and forgiveness anytime.
2
b)
1. It is the opening chapter of the Quran. It is mandatory to recite in every unit of prayer. According to a
hadith, Prayer (Salah) is not accepted without its recitation. Therefore, it is the oft-recited Surah by
Muslims all around the world. This passage is also recited on the sick for curing illness and on the dead to
seek Allah’s forgiveness. Its continuous recitation protects one from the anger of Allah.
2. It strengthens our belief on the Day of Judgment and that Allah will be our sole Judge. It reminds us of
our accountability before Allah for our actions and speeches based on His guidance for us. We realize
only Allah will have the authority to punish or to forgive us on the Day of Judgement.
3. The repetition of His Mercy in this passage encourages us to repent before Him for our sins and to seek
His guidance to avoid doing sins/mistakes in the future.
4. The phrase ‘Sirat ul Mustakim’ enables us to understand the most vital prayer for us which is to pray
for righteousness. We learn it is only Allah who can guide us to righteousness because He has designed
that path therefore only He can take us there.
5. Therefore, we should keep praying for His guidance to be consistent on it. We should also keep praying
to Him to be grateful for His guidance and other blessings on us.
7. Surah Baqarah (2:21-22)
a)
Name of Passage: Surah Baqarah
Theme: Allah’s Relation with the Created World
Specification: Allah is our Lord (Creator and Sustainer) and our Guide
Main Teachings:
1. It teaches Allah is the Designer and Creator of everything in this universe including us.
He created us and all the humans who have lived before us. The Quran states: “who created man out of
the clot of congealed blood.” (96:2) Al-Alaq
2. This passage teaches that Allah also created other creations on the earth to serve man/us. The Quran
states: “It is He who has created for you all the things that are on earth, then He turned to the heavens
and made them into seven firmaments.” (2:29) Al-Baqarah
3. It also teaches that Allah is our sustainer as He has arranged our sustenance on the earth to survive.
For this, from the sky, He sends the rain down, and when the rain strikes the earth it gives us food to
nurture us physically. The Quran states: “Is there any other creator than Allah, to give you sustenance
from the heavens or earth?” (35:3) Al-Fatir
3
4. As He creates and sustains us alone, the passage demands us to submit ourselves to Allah alone
without setting up competitors against Him.
5. Therefore, we need to praise and worship Allah alone without associating partners with Him in His
existence or attributes.
b)
1. The provided verses are from Surah Baqarah which is the longest Surah of the Quran. It is recited by
Muslims at homes and businesses to attain the blessings of Allah and to remove unwanted creatures.
2. It strengthens our belief in the Lordship of Allah and His unity in worshipping.
3. It helps us to realize that Allah also provides us with Spiritual nourishment through His guidance. By the
metaphorical meanings of Couch, Canopy, Rain and Fruits we learn that to guide us, from above the
heavens He sent His revelations down, and when the revelations reached man, the man received
guidance about what to do and what not to do.
4. The phrase ‘those who came before you’ helps us to realize Allah’s guidance for us by the conditions
of previous nations like the nation of Hazrat Nuh (A.S). Those who submitted to Him alone and
worshipped Him alone became successful however those who rejected Him or associated partners with
Him earned His wrath. Therefore, we should submit ourselves to Allah alone without doing any kind of
Shirk.
4. Realizing His blessings of creating, sustaining, and guiding us make us grateful to Him.
5. The word ‘Abudu’ which means to worship is translated as Adore to enable us to understand that we
need to worship Allah with feelings of respect and love to show gratitude to Him for His blessings upon
us.

8. Surah Alaq (96:1-5)
a)
Name of Passage: Surah Alaq
Theme: Allah’s Relation with the Created World
Specification: Allah is our Lord; Creator and Teacher
Main Teachings:
1. It teaches Allah is man’s Creator who creates man uniquely. The Quran states “He creates you in the
wombs of your mothers in stages, one after another, in three veils of darkness.” (39:6) Al-Zumr
2. It teaches that Allah creates man with sophisticated yet amazing processes. He creates man by mixing
an insignificant drop of germ cell in blood and by resting it in the womb of a mother. First, it is in the form
of a cell then it becomes thick blood, and then it becomes a fetus. Thereafter, the fetus develops further
and grows skin, bones, organs and muscles, etc. The Prophet (PBUH) said: “Each one of you is constituted
in the womb of the mother for forty days, then he becomes a clot of thick blood for a similar period and
then a piece of flesh for a similar period. Then a soul is breathed into him …”
3. It also teaches Allah is man’s Teacher as He has bestowed man with Knowledge. The Quran states: “He
taught Adam the names of all things …” (2:31)
4. It teaches Allah is man’s unique teacher as He has provided man with the knowledge of Physical and
Spiritual worlds i.e. the knowledge of the seen and the unseen.
5. He has also taught man the use of a pen, which is the symbol of recording, keeping, and transferring
knowledge of the physical world. With the use of a pen, man can keep enhancing his knowledge of the
physical world which results in new learnings, discoveries and inventions.
b)
1. It reminds us of our superiority based on knowledge granted to us.
2. It helps us to realize that whatever we were and what we are today is just due to the will of Allah. We
were a drop of germ cell and now we are healthy humans and Allah’s supreme creation. This makes us
grateful to Allah that He created us among humans with health.
3. Learning about the process of our creation by the drop of germ cell brings humility to our character. It
also prevents us from arrogance and pride, especially the pride concerning our physical appearance.
4. We learn that Allah creates animals with the same procedure of mixing germ cells but animals do not
have knowledge and power of speech. Therefore, His blessings of creating and teaching us and making us
His supreme creation make us more grateful to Allah.
5. The term ‘Iqra’ which is translated as Read and Proclaim enables us to understand the most important
duty shouldered upon us which is to learn, implement and spread the knowledge of religion. Therefore,
to show gratitude to Allah for creating us among humans with health, we should keep on learning and
practicing Deen and should also make arrangements to teach it.

9. Surah Zilzal (99:1-8)
a)
Name of Passage: Surah Zilzal
Theme: Allah’s Relation with the Created World
Specification: Allah is our Judge
Main Teachings:
1. This passage highlights the scene of the Day of Judgment.
2. It teaches that the Final day will occur by the will of Allah alone.
3. It will begin with the order of Allah to the earth.
4. The Earth will then produce far more reaching and destructive earthquakes all around the world.

and the skies will fall.
6. Everyone will be dead no matter what they do or say and where they hide.
7. This passage teaches that Allah will give another life to mankind and by His command, all humans will
be resurrected. The Quran states: “Allah will raise those who are in their graves.” (22:7) Al-Hajj
8. The resurrection will occur for the final hearing. For this humans will go to the plain of Arafat in groups
of good and bad.
8. This passage teaches that Allah will be our only Judge there. The Quran states: “Master of the Day of
Judgment.”(1:4) Al-Fatiha
9. It teaches that Allah will judge every minor and major good and bad deed. The Quran states: “to Him
do all questions go back.” (3:109) Al-Ale Imran
10. It also teaches that on the Final Day, the judgment will occur with pure Justice.
b)
1. It strengthens our belief on the Day of Judgment and that Allah will be our only Judge on that Day.
2. The term ‘inspiration’ which means the order of Allah to the earth convinces us that the Last Day is in
the knowledge and power of Allah alone. The Maya Calendar claimed the world would end on December
21st, 2012 but it did not as it was just a myth. All the similar myths and predictions are untrue as it is clear
from this passage the Last Day will occur by the will, power, and decision of Allah alone.
3. We realize that the existence of this world including us is dependent on just one order of Allah.
4. This reminds us about our mortality that sooner or later we will die therefore it reduces the love of the
world from our hearts and encourages us to prepare for the afterlife.
6
5. Realizing that this world and our stay here are temporary, the passage helps us to avoid materialism
and makes us more concerned about our life after death.
6. The Phrase ‘Throws up her Burden’ reminds us about our accountability before God. This encourages
us to do righteous deeds and avoid sins; indecent acts and speeches.
7. The word ‘Zarra’ which means the atom’s weight of good or bad makes us conscious of deeds.
8. It motivates us to value every small and big good deed and to refrain from every minor and major sin.
9. It strengthens our belief that Allah is our only Judge. Only He will have the power to punish or forgive
us.
10. It also enables us to understand that our God is the Just Judge who will weigh and reward every tiny
and huge deed we do.
10. Surah Nas (114: 1-6)
a)
Name of Passage: Surah Nas
Theme: Allah’s Relation with the Created World
Specification: Allah is our Protector
Main Teachings:
1. This passage was revealed with Surah Falaq and combined Surah Falaq and Surah Nas are called Al-
Muwadhatain.
2. They were revealed to protect Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH) from different forms of evil, especially from
the magic spells that were read on him by multiple magicians.
3. It is reported they were revealed in Makkah and Madinah both when the enemies attempted to harm
him in several ways out of hatred and jealousy.
4. Both passages mention the external and internal forms of evil used to harm him.
5. This passage mentions the necessity of having Allah’s protection from the internal form of evil i.e. the
whisperer.
6. It teaches the whisperer whispers evil ideas in our hearts for damaging our faith and practices. The
whisperer distracts us from righteousness and entices us towards evil acts and speeches.
7. It teaches the whisperer could be from man or jinn.
8. This passage by mentioning Allah’s threefold relation with us teaches that Allah is the only and the
best protector against the whisperer.
a. He is our Lord; He is our Designer, Creator, Cherisher and Sustainer. Similarly, He is our protector who
protects us from all possible harm for our survival.
7
b. He is our King; He has supreme authority over everything and everyone including the whisperer. The
Quran states: “His Throne extends over the heavens and earth.” (2:255) This means He can conveniently
crush the enemy whoever it is man or jinn.
c. He is our God; He is the one we submit to and the one we praise and worship alone. The Quran states:
“You do we worship your aid we seek” (1:5). So, He is the one we call for help and protection. The
Quran states: “I seek Refuge with the Lord of the Dawn” (113:1) Al-Falaq
9. This passage teaches He protects those who ask and pray for it so we are required of seeking Allah’s
protection from the whisperer.
b)
1. We recite this passage for the protection of our faith.
2. It is reported that Prophet (PBUH) recited this passage regularly especially before sleeping. During his
final illness, Hazrat Aisha recited this passage for him along with other passages.
3. We also recite this passage with other ‘Quls’ to attain Allah’s blessings and to seek His protection from
different types of evils.
4. The term ‘Waswas’ enables us to recognize the internal and unseen enemy of our faith that is the
whisperer who whispers evil ideas in our heart to weaken our faith by creating doubts and by enticing us
towards evil deeds.
The whisperer could be:
a) The devil itself i.e. Iblis
b) the partners and helpers of the devil from humans and jinn both
c) our own evil temptations. (Nafs-e-Ammara)
5. Learning about the unseen enemies of our faith, this passage convinces us to seek the protection of
Allah against them.
6. The Repetition of Allah’s titles (Lord, King and God) ensures us that Allah is the only and the best
protector against all sorts of whisperers.
7. Recitation of this passage brings a sense of comfort of being protected by the best protector that is
Allah alone.
8. So, we should seek Allah’s protection regularly by reciting this passage in our daily prayers and before
