I really admired to feature this kind of Church in my beloved district, the La Paz, Iloilo City, because of its
old scriptures, saints and images that still existing inside. Many historical events happened, many
natural disasters over past years came, many people came here to visit and give thanks to our lord
because of all the blessings and grace he gave to us and experience the love of the La Paznon. I proudly
and loud to present this church not just to all people of the La Paz District, but to all Districts that belong
to Iloilo City.
I visit the church at the 2nd Wednesday of November 10:00am in the morning before the mass starts. I
walk in the round gate of our Lord’s Church, and after 5 steps continuing to enter inside, I feel that it
gives me strength and power to bring my good soul to his powerful hand and refresh all my sins I did in
this world, and I kneel to his church and ask for forgiveness and teach me then on how to be a good
disciple for him. While I’m silently communicating to our lord, I look straight forward to the altar the
“Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage” and she sends me a good message, she said that “no matter how
hard will come to my everyday life, always remember that your Lord’s church will protect and save you”
and this gives me a positive impact to me as a disciple of God.
As I’ve mention in my vlog, every weekend on Sundays we, my family, friends, and other people always
gather and visit here at the church for us to listen to what gods said, and to thank all the blessings and
grace he gave, because Church is our second home, and church our savior to all problems we faced in
this world.
This church has been renovated last 2018 and is still ongoing to renovate this year. Just a brief story
when I was filming all the saints inside of the church, there was a priest coming to me and suddenly ask
me, why you’re here? And suddenly he got additional question to ask me, “Did you know that this La Paz
Catholic Church is one of the unique places which has a significant part in history, culture and
development of the people?” and I answered him “Yes father I know that this La Paz church is one of the
unique churches here in La Paz, because of its outstanding ratings overall churches here in Iloilo City. It
gives me goosebumps that the Nuestra Señora De La Paz Y Buen Viaje, has many histories before that
still existing today. According to my research that this church I choose was built in 1870 with the help of
the Spanish friars. This church is now known as the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Church, the
direct translation of its Spanish name. This church, constructed from 1870 to 1874, this was made
mostly of wood, bricks, tabique, pampango, and light materials before and had to be renovated several
times as the years pass. The church designed based on a Neoclassical-style, the current La Paz Church
stands today as one of the centuries-old attractions in the City of Iloilo.
On the second day November 3 of Thursday in the Afternoon 3:00pm, I go to the church for a last vlog of
mine, there was an old woman asking if I was an artist or photographer here in city. At first, I laugh but I
answered him “No” I’m just a student and I’m filming only for my Vlog at my subject in school, and she
suddenly response that, I permanently lived here near on church, and she suddenly point out her house
and she said, I’m the one who maintenance this church. I suddenly ask her “how long have you been
working here at the church? And she said, for almost 58 years and I’m proud with tears that in the age of
58, I can well maintenance the church in a good condition, and she give me some information’s that the
most notable development of the La Paz church was in 1995 (in its 125th year) with the management of
Monsignor. Melencio V. Fegarido. In fact, his achievements were commended by the City Government
and its people by placing a marker on one side of the church. There are no other remarkable features
inside the La Paz church except for the image of the Nuestra Señora De La Paz Y Buen Viaje in the altar
she said.
I really can’t imagine that this church I visited and feature for my vlog, before this was just a church with
a few people gathering here for a mass, a few saints, and images will be seen, and the walls, gates, and
windows are full of rust and too old to renovate as new one. But today, I’m proud that this church or the
Lord’s home been still improving and maintaining clean and bright to all people who wants to enter in
this church and experience the wonderful inside of the church of La Paz district the Nuestra Señora De
La Paz Y Buen Viaje and express the moments together with your friends or families.
