CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

On-the-job Training is part of a college curriculum that aims to train

and orient students about the work and their future career. Students are

required to complete such 240 hours of training. It is a type of skill

development where a worker learns how to do the work through hands-on

experience. On the job Training is one method by which students are

exposed with different work situation designed to give students an

opportunity to experience and a chance to apply the theories and

computation that they have learned from the school. It also helps the

students to acquire relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual

work setting.

OJT is very important not only to teach students regarding their

chosen career but also to show students the reality about working. The

students will be exposed to the actual work related to the course that they

are taking. It also allows those with no experience to work and to learn at

the same time. On-the-job Training helps the trainee to learn more about

his chosen field and practice what he has learned from the school. It helps

in the building up of the trainee’s competence. Of course, when a student

is competent enough, he will be able to do things successfully. This

training develops one’s professionalism in dealing with people. After the

already working. Students will be trained not only academically but socially

as well. The way they work and communicate with others will not be a

problem for them anymore. It also gives the trainee the chance to immerse

himself in his chosen field and experience and learn the skills necessary to

the industry he is interested in working with experienced staff, one will be

able to observe how the job is done properly.

Aside from work experience, On-the-job Training allows the trainee

to get acquainted with the real professionals and to meet people having

different positions in the company, either high or low. The trainee will be

able to know how to adjust to other people’s personalities and attitudes.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

Personal related to work

As a beginner, staying in Polaris Cable Vision Inc., was viewed as

opportunity to conduct self- adjustment in the workplace. At times, we felt

nervous when we met the head technician of the shop but gradually, we

had adjusted ourselves to the new environment. Though the work was

challenging for us, all the problems we met were solved. As a student

trainee, I believe that no work is hard as long as there is willingness and all

the instruction are clear.

Work

The employees/workers look at the manager as a model who gives

directions facilities and development. As a trainee, I admired our trainers

for their patience and dedication to their work. Working with them was a

fulfillment because I also dreamt of becoming a manager someday.

29
Positive attitude made me realize that in order to be successful in life, the

following attributes must be possessed; determination, self-confidence,

and good decision making. The manager also shared extra knowledge and

information in running up a business which I found advantageous on my

part in the future.

Reminiscing the times that we have worked together, I felt like a

regular employee and not a trainee. Trainers taught me how to entertain

and convince costumers properly. I am glad because the manager was

satisfied with my performance. I am also proud of myself because I did a

great job and I developed my ability to be a competent and efficient

worker.

Workmates

During my training, I experienced working with technicians who were

already efficient and effective in their work. They are already experts.

Working with them was really rewarding because they contributed ideas,

enhanced my prior knowledge and gave me some tips and techniques in

repairing. I am thankful to our unselfish brown lines technician for they

disclosed the service modes for Cable Connection even though it is a

trade secret for others.

Supervisor

30
The student trainee was very lucky to have a supportive,

approachable, and cooperative supervisor who was always there to

correct and instruct me in what to do. He was approachable and

hospitable.

CHAPTER V

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS

Summary

Completing on-the-job training is helpful in gaining knowledge,

skills, obtaining new ideas, to help you to become more patient and

enhance the ability of communicating or dealing with other people. It is the

preparation of the trainee for his/her future. On-the-job training gave you

the desire of dreaming and putting it into reality. Some of the trainees,

taking it for granted not knowing the importance of it in their lives. In

31
pursuing goals in life, you need to be dedicated in performing your job and

learn to love it for you to be successful.

Conclusions

Having undertaken an on-the-job training under the degree of

Bachelor of Science in Industrial Technology, I can say that encountering

different types of difficulties will never be a hindrance in completing

training. This training served as our practice for our future jobs. Upon

taking requirements, I started to dream and wish to have my own service

shop someday. I developed this desire because I was inspired by the

owner of PCVI and I would like to experience the feeling of managing and

having my own service shop.

Recommendations

It is highly recommended that the shop continues to render quality

work and service and satisfy and convince clienteles;

To the Board of Directors, to provide another branch in Cauayan

City, Isabela and to reach out to other towns, cities and provinces like

Cordon, Solano, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Viscaya and Cagayan. And to always

prioritize the welfare of PCVI workers and technicians, that they should

keep working efficiently for the benefit of the shop.

Problem Encountered

32
Problems are everywhere and anywhere. Problem is a part of our

daily life. But as what people say, there is always a solution to every

problem or difficulty.

During my training, the problem that I encountered was the

exhaustion felt when we conducted service outside the province. The

scorching heat of the sun or the weather in general was a big challenge to

anybody.

Comments

To every company or any business firm existing today, there is

always a positive or negative comment about its service.

The following are my comments:

The services rendered to the customers were satisfying and convincing;

The manager is devoted and dedicated to his work; and

The technicians are well-experienced and expert in their work
