You are cautioned that any changes or modifications not expressly approved in this manual + could void your authority to operate this equipment. | INFORMATION This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio of television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: —Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna. ~Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver. -Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected. ~Consutt the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help. Features * A quartz-controlled PLL(Phase Locked Loop) synthesizer system using a microcomputer for easy pinpoint tuning. © Up to 5 stations in each band can be preset. The tuned frequency is digitally displayed to make ‘searching of the desired station easier. © The radio can be tuned on at the preset time, * Weather band provides continuous broadcast of the latest weather information (directly from National Weather Service offices). Note on AM channel step The AM channel step differs depending on areas. The AM channel step of this unit is factory-set to 10 KHz to match the frequency allocation system of the country as listed. You can change the channel step. (See “Changing AM Channel Step”.) a Precautions * Operate the unit only on 4.5 V DC. For battery operation, use three size AA (R6) batteries. For AC operation and car battery operation, use accessories recommended for the unit. Do not use any other type. The namepiate indicating operating voltage, etc. is located on the rear. ‘Do not leave the unit in a location near a heat source such as a radiator or airduct, or in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust, mechanical vibration or shock. Use the unit within a temperature range of 0° C to 40° C (32'F to 104’F). If it is used in temperatures higher than this range, numbers may appear on the frequency which have nothing to do with the frequency being received. If it is used in temperatures lower than this range, the numbers displayed may change very slowly. (These irregularities will disappear and there will be no damage to the unit when the unit is used in its recommended temperature range.) . * Should any solid object or liquid fall in to the unit, remove the batteries, and have the unit checked by qualified personne! before operating it any further. * Since a strong magnet is used for the speaker, keep personal credit cards using magnetic coding or spring- wound watches away from the unit to prevent possible damage from the magnet. ‘+ When the casing becomes soiled, clean it with a soft cloth dampened with mitd detergent solution. Never use abrasive cleansers or chemical solvents, as they may mar the casing. It you have any question or problem concerning your unit that is not covered in this manual, please consult your nearest Sony dealer. Troubleshooting Guide Should any problem persist after you have made following checks, consult your nearest Sony dealer. The unit is not turned on. ¢ Weak or incorrect polarity of batteries. * The o» mark is displayed. Press the KEY PROTECT button so that the o~ mark will disappear. * The AC power adaptor or the car battery cord is disconnected. * Battery operation is attempted while the AC power adaptor or the car battery cord is connected to the unit, but not to a wail outlet or cigarette lighter socket. The front panel buttons do not operate at all. © The o» mark is displayed. Press the KEY PROTECT button so that the o» mark will disappear. Display is dim, or no indication is displayed. © Weak batteries. © The unit is being used in extremely high or low temperatures or in place with excessive moisture. Sound Is not heard at all. * The VOL control is turned down completely. * The earphone is plugged in. * Incorrect polarity of batteries Very weak or interrupted sound, or unsatisfactory reception * Weak batteries: © Ina vehicte or in a building, listen near a window. ‘The station cannot be received in the preset tuning. * The station has not been preset. * The memory of the station has been erased. Preset the station again. The radio is not turned on at the preset time. © The current time is not set correctly. © The alarm time is not set correctly. * The VOL contro! is turned down completely. Optional Accessories AC power adaptor AC-E45M Car battery cord DCC-E145L_ Your dealer may not handle some of the above listed optional accessories. Please ask the dealer for detailed information about the optional accessories available in your country. Installing Batteries or distorted. When the batteries are run down completely, the power is turned off and “ooo” in the display window flashes. When the power turned on with the indication flashing, the power will be tuned off right away. When “ooo” starts flashing, replace all the batteries with new ones. After the batteries are replaced, tim the power on again to stop the flashing of the indication. ‘When replacing the batteries Replace the batteries within about one minute after turning off the radio. If you do not replace them within ‘one minute, the preset stations may be erased, the clock setting may be cleared and “AM 12:00" flashes in the display window. To avoid damage from battery leakage and corrosion Remove the batteries when you do not use the unit for a tong time. When the batteries are removed for a long time Preset stations will be erased and the clock setting will be cleared. Preset Tuning You can preset up to five stations in each band (a total of 20 stations). To change the preset station Preset a new station in the number of which you want to change the station. The previous station is canceled. 1 Press the POWER button to turn the radio on. 2 Select the band with the BAND/STANDBY button. 3 Press the desired PRESET TUNING button. 4 Adjust the volume. Using the Alarm Functio: You can tum the radio on at the preset time. It will be tuned in the station before the radio was tumed off. The radio will automatically tum off after about 60 minutes, unless you turn it off. Setting the Alurn Thne Make sure the radio is turned off. —_ 2 While keeping the ALARM button pressed, set the time by pressing the TUNE/TIME + or — button. While the ALARM button is pressed, the “STANDBY” indication is flashing in the display window. Q Release the ALARM button. The alarm time is set. The indication becomes the current time.
