SPI Vendor Supply Chain Spec Sheets
• SPI Spec Sheets are the primary source of Vendor Data
provided for Sizing, Selection and Procurement of
Engineered Valves and Instruments
• SPI Engineered Item Specs Sheet contain:
• Process Conditions Data (Process Data Tables)
• Sizing Data Requirement (Process Data and Spec UDFs)
• Instrument Selection Data (Mostly Spec UDFs)
• Optional Accessories (Spec UDFs)
• Related Components (Spec UDFs)
• Changes are coming to the SPI Spec Sheets
• Engineering Data Editor (EDE) replacing Spec Browsers
• Smart Form Generator (SFG) replacing Infomaker Forms
• Application Programing Interfaces (APIs) are coming for
Data Integration of the Vendor Supply Chain interfaces
14 Confidential
SPI Spec Module Coming Changes
• Engineering Data Editor (EDE) - Allows users to create
flexible data queries within SPI will soon replace the need for
Infomaker Browser for Spec Sheets
• Will become the primary mechanism for bulk editing and
exporting Vendor Supply Chain Data from Spec Sheets
• Smart Report Generator (SRG) - Offer a single web based
solution to create specifications and forms for all Smart
Solutions, replaces Infomaker Power Soft Reports
• Will replace the Spec Forms in SPI but may not have all the
capabilities of an Infomaker .psr report
• Application Programming Interface (API) - A framework for
exposing Application data and services to “Any Device - Any
Where” via a Web Interface
• Representational State Transfer (REST) or RESTful - and OData
(Open Data Protocol) are interoperability standards for building
interface Web APIs for future Vendor Data Integration

Current Issues with SPI Specs and the Vendor Supply Chain
• SPI Spec Sheet Spec_UDFs are used to define most of the
Vendor data used for Selection of Instruments and Valves
• Spec Browsers are Defined by the Spec Data Dictionary to
define headers for each Spec_UDF field per Spec Form
• Infomaker PSR Forms used by SPI are very easy to modify
therefore creating unlimited variations in the Spec_UDFs
• The Spec Data Dictionary is not currently accessed by the
EDE for creating EDE Views of Specs
• Exporting Vendor Data from Spec browser or EDE views
need a hard copy of the Spec sent to the Vendor for support
• Mapping of Spec Data Fields to the Vendor Sizing and
Selection software is a major issue for vendors
• The Lack of Integration Standards compounds ability to
develop stable Vendor Integration Templates or APIs

SPI and Hexagon PPM Interface Standards
• “Hexagon PPM, as a pioneer in the field of data-centric engineering design and information
management, contributes actively to the development and adoption of international standards
that promote the efficient exchange and reuse of facility information.”
• ISO 15926 - Hexagon PPM has been an active member of POSC/Caesar and delivered the
first ever POSC/Caesar data warehouse in 1997. POSC/Caesar initiated the development of
the ISO 15926 standard. SmartPlant Foundation data model has shared a common basis with
ISO 15926 Part 2
• CFIHOS (Capital Facilities Information Hand-Over Specification) for process industries Whilst
the CFIHOS standard is still under development, Hexagon PPM considers that it provides a
good pragmatic basis for defining standard information requirements for life-cycle asset
management using ISO 15926 . We are adopting this standard within our new Smart Digital
Asset portfolio of products
• OData APIs SmartPlant Foundation and the solutions built on this, such as SmartPlant
Enterprise for Owner Operators, already benefit a wide range of read-write OData APIs. Over
the coming years, our Smart design tools will support more OData Restful APIs

• With upcoming changes in SPI this is an opportunity for Hexagon PPM to improve the Data
Centricity and Standardization of the Vendor Supply Chain integration interfaces
• Benefits of adopting a Normalized Standards Based Spec Data Dictionary on upcoming
Hexagon PPM changes to SPI:
• Engineering Data Editor (EDE) – will have Structured Data Dictionaries to base its Spec View
queries on without having to map to unique data structures for every SPI Spec Form
• Smart Report Generator (SRG) - will have Structured Data Dictionaries to develop normalized
Spec Form WUSIWYG Reports and Data Editing Views of Spec Data Sheets
• Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) - will have Structured Data Dictionaries to allow
