RECONSTRUCTION Study Guide

Johnson and Lincoln had differing Reconstruction plans, but both required Southern states to abolish slavery and ratify the 13th Amendment to resume participation in the US government. Johnson's plan was easier, allowing states to hold conventions and elections sooner. The 13th Amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, while the 14th and 15th Amendments granted citizenship and voting rights to African Americans.
