Chart Preparation in Indian Railways

Chart preparation in Indian Railways finalizes seat allocation for passengers and is done twice before departure - 4 hours and 30 minutes before. The first chart preparation updates the status of confirmed, RAC, and waitlisted tickets. The final chart includes names and seat details of confirmed, RAC, and upgraded waitlisted passengers. Passengers should check their status before chart preparation in case they need to cancel or modify their ticket.

CHART PREPARATION IN INDIAN RAILWAYS

Chart preparation is an important process in Indian Railways as it finalizes the

status of reservations and seat allocation for passengers who have booked their
tickets. The chart preparation for Indian Railways trains is generally done twice,
once before the departure of the train and the second time just before the train’s
departure.

Here is a step-by-step process of chart preparation in Indian Railways:

1. The first chart preparation is done 4 hours prior to the train’s departure from the
origin station.
2. The second and final chart preparation is done 30 minutes before the departure
of the train.
3. During the first chart preparation, the status of all confirmed, RAC, and waitlisted
tickets are updated.
4. In case of any cancellations or modifications in reservations after the first chart
preparation, a revised chart is prepared before the train's departure.
5. The final chart will include the names of all confirmed passengers, RAC
passengers, and waitlisted passengers who have been allotted seats.
6. Passengers who have confirmed tickets will have their berth and coach numbers
mentioned on the chart.
7. Passengers with RAC tickets will have their coach numbers mentioned on the
chart, and their berth numbers will be allotted after chart preparation.
8. Waitlisted passengers who have been allotted seats will have their berth and
coach numbers mentioned on the chart.
9. Waitlisted passengers who have not been allotted seats will have their names
mentioned on the chart with a status of WL (waitlisted).
10.Passengers with confirmed tickets can board the train and occupy their allotted
seats.
11.RAC passengers can board the train and occupy the seats allotted to them, and
will be provided with berths if available after chart preparation.
12.Waitlisted passengers can board the train, but they can only occupy the seats if
they have been allotted seats after chart preparation. Otherwise, they will not be
allowed to board the train.

It is important for passengers to check their PNR status before the chart
preparation to know the status of their tickets. In case of any changes in the
status of their tickets, passengers can cancel or modify their reservations
accordingly.
