families and extended families. Both are very common in Guatemala. You can find
families formed just by mom, dad, and children. But don’t be surprised if you find big
families formed by mom, dad, children, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. All of
them living in the same house.
Children live with their parents until they become adults, until they’re eighteen.
After eighteen, some children leave their parents’ house to go to live with their friends;
others continue living with their parents but they have to work and go to the university.
Parents usually worry about their children’s future, they always support them because
