THE Research Title: Nutritive Evaluation of Mungbean as a feed for broiler chickens
RESEARCH
PROJECT Rationale: (Short description why you will conduct this study, stating the problem
you need to address; why conduct this study)
Mung bean (Vigna radiata) is grown widely in the tropical zones of Asia and is
commonly used as human food (Thompson et.al1976; Sood et al., 1982,
Rosalah et al.,1993 and El-Damhougy et al.,1996). Based on chemical analysis,
mung bean is considered to be a good source of protein, essential amino acids,
minerals, and energy. In addition, raw mung bean does not appear to contain anti-
nutritional factors such as soybean. Reducing the feed cost, which represents at
least 65% of poultry production, is one of the important targets in poultry
production operations. In Egypt, hard currency is spent to import either plant or
animal protein sources. Therefore, considerable attention has been paid to the use
of locally available feed substances in formulating poultry diets to achieve a
suitable efficiency of nutrient utilization and economic efficiency of production.
(Creswell ,1981; Yamazaki et al., 1998, and El- Alfy,1998 )
The general objective of the present experiment is to study the effect of using
mung bean seeds in broiler diets on growth performance and carcass
characteristics
The specific objective of this study was the effect of mung bean inclusion in
broiler diets on the improvement of feed conversion, and growth of birds and
reduce the feed cost and to investigate the of a feat of adding mung beans to
broiler diets on growth performance
Statement of the Problem: (What is the problem being addressed in this study)
other sources for each of these elements. Protein sources in chicken feed are
expensive and account for 30 to 35 percent of their diet. Continued usage of soy as
the primary source of protein in chicken feed has resulted in a protein shortage
and therefore a rise in the price of poultry feed. Hence, there is clearly potential to
utilize locally accessible materials for economically viable broiler production.
(Kellems and Church, 2010)
Mung beans (Vigna radiata) are regularly cultivated in the tropical regions of
Asia and consumed by humans. When cost allows, they may also provide as a
source of important amino acids and energy in chicken diets. Broiler chicks were
used in feeding trials to establish the nutritional value of mung beans and, in
particular, to determine whether mung bean is a better alternative feed source for
Through conducting this research we can see a clear basis that mung beans,
when properly supplemented, will support good growth in broiler chickens at
levels up to 40% of the diet.( Ali et al., 1988)
The present study indicated that mung bean seed provided enough and
adequate nutrients for the normal growth of broiler chicks. Based on these
observations, mung bean had no adverse effect on growth performance. It could
be concluded that mung bean seeds can be used in broiler diets as a promising
source of plant protein (Almquist and Merritt, 1952; Creswell, 1981, El- Kowicz
and Sosulski,1982 and Chitra et al.,1995).
Methodology: (Write briefly the procedure to follow in the conduct of the study;
include the treatments, number of samples/respondents, place where to collect
samples and type of respondents (survey), statistical analysis to be used.
The experiment was carried out at the College of Agriculture, in Central Luzon
State University. This experiment was designed to study the effect of feeding
different levels of mung beans on young broiler chicken. A total of 32 one-day old
broiler chick were divided in two experimental treatments with 4 replication, each
replicates contains 4 birds reared on floor cages chicken and were weighed at 1
day of age in such a way as heavy as possible the initial weights for each dietary
treatment. The feeding period was 30 days during which time individual weight
gains group feed consumption, and average mortality.
Treatment 1: Control.
First treatment assigned as the control to which the other treated groups were
compared.
Chicks in the second group fed on diet contain 40% mung bean grits and 60%
commercialize feeds.
STATISTICAL ANALYSIS:
All data were transformed prior to analysis, ANOVA (analysis of variance) will be
used, using statistical tool for agricultural research star Nebula (2013) and
implemented accordance with the design of completely randomized design (CRD).
