Manual Selector Valve


SMCS - 3157-16; 3157-11; 3157-12; 3157-15

Remove Manual Selector Valve


start by:

a) separation of torque converter from transmission

1. Connect a hoist and put the transmission on stand (A) in position shown. Weight of transmission is
1300 lb. (585 kg).

2. Remove cover (1).

3. Remove two bolts (2) and install two 3/8"-16 NC guide bolts.

4. Remove the two other large bolts and twenty-four bolts (3).

5. Remove pressure control valve group (4).

6. Remove the manifold.

7. Push tubes (7) down out of selector valve group (6).

8. Remove the two O-ring seals and two sleeves (5).

9. Put rubber bands or O-ring seals around the valve spools to keep them in position during removal
of valve group.

10. Remove selector valve group (6).

11. Remove manifold (8).

12. Remove the two guide bolts.

Install Manual Selector Valve


1. Put the five O-ring seals in position in No. 3 clutch housing.

2. Install the two 3/8"-16 NC guide bolts in the No. 3 clutch housing.

3. Install manifold (1).

4. Put rubber bands or O-ring seals around the valve spool (2) for directional selector and around
valve spool (3) for speed selector to keep valve spools in position during the installation of valve
group.

5. Install the selector valve group (4). Remove the rubber bands or O-ring seals.

6. Pull tubes (7) up into position in the selector valve group.

7. Install the O-ring seals on sleeves (5). Install the two sleeves.

8. Install the manifold (6).

9. Install valve group (8) for pressure control.

10. Install two of the large bolts and remove the two guide bolts. Install the other two large bolts.
Install the twenty-four small bolts. Tighten the four large bolts (9) to a torque of 35 ± 3 lb.ft. (45 ± 4
N·m). Tighten the twenty-four small bolts (10) evenly to a torque of 22 ± 3 lb.ft. (28 ± 4 N·m).

11. If necessary, make an adjustment to valve spool (2) and (3) as shown in TESTING AND
ADJUSTING.

12. Install cover on transmission case.

a) connection of torque converter to transmission

Disassemble Manual Selector Valve


NOTE: See DISASSEMBLE TRANSMISSION for removal of manual selector valve.

1. Remove valve spool (1) for speed selection.

2. Remove valve spool (2) for direction.

Assemble Manual Selector Valve


1. Clean and inspect all parts.

2. Install spool (2) for direction.

3. Install spool (1) for speed selection.

NOTE: See ASSEMBLE TRANSMISSION for installation of manual selector valve.
