General Instructions:-
(i) There are 35 questions in all. All questions are compulsory
(ii) This question paper has five sections: Section A, Section B, Section C, Section D and Section E. all the
sections are compulsory.
(iii) Section A contains eighteen MCQs of 1 mark each, Section B contains seven questions of two marks
each, Section C contains five questions of three marks each, Section D contains three long questions of
five marks each and Section E contains two case study based questions of 4 marks each.
(iv) There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in section B, C, D and E.
you have to attempt only one of the choices in such questions.

25. A cyclist moving on a circular track of radius R = 40 cm completes half a revolution in 4 s. find the average
velocity and average speed.

26. On a certain day, rain was falling vertically with a speed of 9 m/s. a wind started blowing after sometime with
a speed of 3 m/s in East to West direction. Find the resultant velocity and in which direction should the boy
waiting at a bus stop hold his umbrella.
27. In elastic Collison in one dimension, show that the relative velocity of separation after collision is equal to
relative velocity of approach before collision.

29. Two blocks of mass 4 kg and 2 kg are placed side by side on a smooth horizontal surface as shown in the
figure. a horizontal force of 20 N is applied on 4 kg block. Find
(i) the acceleration of each block and (ii) the normal reaction between two blocks.

SECTION – D
31. Find an expression for the maximum speed with which a vehicle can safely negotiate a curved road banked at
an angle ɵ. The coefficient of friction between the wheel and the road is assumed as µ. Hence, write an
expression for optimum speed.
OR
When a body slides from rest along a smooth inclined plane making 450 angle with horizontal, it takes time T.
when the same body slides down form rest along a rough inclined plane making same angle and through the
same distance it takes time pT ( where p>1). Calculate the coefficient of friction between the body and the
rough plane.
32. (i) What would be the reading of weighing scale in each case (a), (b) and (c)? if young man of mass 60 kg
stands on a weighing scale in a lift which is moving

sliding block P on Q, horizontal force of 12 N is required to be applied on P. how much maximum force can be
applied on Q, so that both P and Q move together? Also, find the acceleration produced by this force.
33. (i) Write any two important features of inertial frame of reference. Give one example.
(ii) A body tied to a string is made to revolve in a vertical circle. Derive the expression for the velocity and
tension in the string at any point hence, find the tension at the bottom and the top of the circle.

(i) Why is force of static friction called a self adjusting force?
(ii) Define angle of friction. Write its relation with coefficient of friction.
(iii)Define angle of repose. Deduce its relation with coefficient of static friction.

Case study questions
34. Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions.
The centre of mass of a body or a system of bodies is the point which moves as though all of the mass were
concentrated there and all external forces were applied to it. Hence, a point at which the entire mass of the
body or system of bodies is supposed to be concentrated is known as the centre of mass.
If a system consists of more than one particles and net external force on the system in a particular direction is
zero with centre of mass at rest. Then, the centre of mass will not move along that direction, Even though some
particles of the system may move along that direction.
(i) Define centre of mass of two particle system. 2
(ii) Two bodies of masse 1 kg and 2 kg are lying in xy- plane at (-1, 2) and (2, 4), respectively. What are the

35. Read the passage carefully and answer the following questions.
Kinetic Energy
The energy possessed by a body by virtue of its motion is called kinetic energy. In other works, the amount of
work done, a moving object can do before coming to rest is equal to its kinetic energy.
Kinetic energy KE = mv2 where, m is a mass and v is the velocity of a body.
Kinetic energy of a body is always positive. It can never be negative.
(i) A force which is inversely proportional to the speed is acting on a body. What is the kinetic energy of the body
starting from rest? 1
