Lesson 1- Ancient, Oriental, Sumerian, Early Egyptian, and Jewish Education

1. What I Have Learned from this lesson?

In this lesson, I learned a lot of different education from different time and
lineage. In Ancient , I learned that their education is more on survival and getting
their basic needs. The primitive people, taught their children how to survive, how to
hunt some foods, how to get a shelter and their transmission tradition, they transfer
from one land to other land in order find some food and survive. They learned from
their home and in the environment. Second is the Oriental Education, their
education is more on tradition and religion. They are focused on this because they
aim to preserve their ancestral tradition and their religious belief. In the Sumerian
Education, they are more on writing. The types of their education are writing
education, Mathematical education, Language education, Vocational Education,
Professional Education. They are also focused on writing scriptures especially about
ethics, humanity and their god. In their education they do flogging as their discipline.
Next is the Early Egyptian education, their education are more on literature, like
writing, arts, reading, architecture and many more. In Egyptian education, women
are not allowed to go to school. During that time, women should only focused on
household chores and the needs inside a home. And lastly, the Jewish education,
they focused on ethics and religious, they are more on learning sacred scriptures.

2. What is the outstanding contribution of Ancient, oriental, Sumerian, Early

Egyptian, and Jewish education to our present Philippine Educational System?
First of all, education begins at home. The home is one of the most essential
learning environment, we learned a lot from our home, from our basic needs and all
the things we need to do in order to have a good life. The contribution of ancient
education in our educational system is that how we determined our basic needs in
learning. In oriental Education is how we preserve our tradition and religion, we
become more knowledgeable about our tradition and cultures that’s why we have a
subject here in Philippines called “Panitikan” and “Araling Panlipunan”. in Sumerian
Education, their contribution is writing, how important documentation is. Because of
their education we experienced today a proper education, we learned about
mathematics, science, language and other subjects that essential fro
professionalism. In Early Egyptian, their contribution is literature, we become more
knowledgeable about literature. We all know that literature is one of that
contributed our learning today. Because of the writings and studies before, we have
something to learn. And lastly the Jewish Education, their contribution is how to be
good and to do good. The good moral and ethics that we need in order to become
successful not just in our profession but also as a person.
